unbornchickenyep, i do (latest drivers and firmware). do you also only get it on your computer? i've contacted creative and we managed to narrow the source down to my PC, which is running windows 7. the unit seems to work fine with my ps3, my smartphone, and bluetooth'd ipad. it's unclear whether it's a software issue related to windows or hardware, but i'm tired of the troubleshooting. i've contacted massdrop multiple times for a replacement and have yet to get a response.
you can also start a warranty claim on creative's website for a replacement, but you have to pay for shipping the unit to them.
grumpy1471are you using the x7 with windows? if so, try quickly raising and lowering the system volume by tapping on the arrow keys (click on the volume icon on the bottom right of your screen first). do you get crackles/pops?
i've never had that crackling/buzzing artifact when i was using my xonar dx sound card. there's also sporadic, random crackling when i play games, especially when there are loud sound effects involved. popping can be heard when i receive messages or call someone on steam. system and in-app volume are set to normal listening levels, so it's not the signals being overcharged. also, just because you've had the issue all along, it doesn't automatically mean "there's nothing wrong." i'd think creative would have acknowledged it by now if this "crackling" is the norm (protip: they didn't, i've emailed them).
why would i deliberately try to find something wrong with the unit and go through the hassle of sending it back for another unit? you don't test things you buy for defects? maybe money comes easy to you, but $300 ain't chump change to the average joe. stop taking criticisms/complaints of this product personally. they're about the product, not your character. it boggles me why you were so quick to make such a polarizing statement after reading a single comment from me, maybe it has something to do with your username.
you filled in the blanks and jumped to your own conclusion, i'm not at fault here. i simply asked you to perform a test with your x7, there was no immediate need to describe my problem to you.
"Sounds like you want to find something wrong with the X7" can be easily and reasonably interpreted as a jab at me, going on the defensive would be the logical response (and FYI that is not an "extremely defensive position," i would reserve that description for name-calling). you should be clear in your wording as well if you wish to not be misunderstood.
my past posts are reasonable complaints and comments regarding the experience i'm having with this drop. i wouldn't say starting to complain after seeing the shipment get delayed for 2 weeks and waiting for 5 days without a reply from massdrop's support team is being "quick to be unhappy." if i was quick to be unhappy i'd have asked for a chargeback from my bank without saying a word on here.
unbornchickenMine is fine - I'm using the USB connection and tried with 2 headphones + powered speakers, running Win 8.1. Does it make a difference if you toggle Direct Mode?
iGrenadeUsing the word 'butthurt' must cause traumatic memories to resurface. I'd hate to think what happened to them... the butthurt must have been terrible.
wovieCongratulations, you're starting to develop the ability to predict what people's responses will be! This is an important step on the way to being able to think before you speak.
Before you know it, you'll be saying nothing at all, and we'll all be the better for it. :)
XyrvyreRight, because every other post saying "Massdrop sucks, I can't take these delays" is better.
And don't forget "y mad?" "still butthurt lol". Thinking before speaking indeed!
Xyrvyrei finally got a reply from massdrop and sent mine in for a replacement. hopefully the issue goes away with a new unit.
i'll try optical out as a last resort if i still get issues, thanks for the suggestion.
iGrenadeYou mean after all that bitching and moaning you ended up with a defective unit? Haha, too good!
My unit is super crisp, clear and clean... my system has never sounded better!
wovieI though so as well at first; however, there's a rubber piece with an adhesive backing in a bag alongisde the instruction manual. Once I put that piece on the back of the unit, it significantly improved the sturdiness of the stand.
iGrenadeI narrowed the problem to the input coming from my PC as well. I read in a creative forum that some people had the same issue when connected to USB3.0 (my case) and that the problem would go away when switching to USB2.0... I did that and VOILA! working perfectly now. I hope this may help you as well...
wovieSame here. I'm actually a little surprise about the build all round. It's very light. Plastic volume knob. I love the device, just expected it to be a bit more solid.
