You guys crack me up over the steel used. It's a quality knife with decent steel at this price point. Looks awesome. Maybe they will come out with a higher priced option. Maybe it would be nice if that was an option.

crowleykirkHow do you know it's a quality knife? The Natrix copper is a perfect example of what should have been awesome but turns out it kinda blows. Without a proper review, knowing full well the steel is amongst the lowest quality junk available and a retarded price point because bearings. I'll be passing.
crowleykirkI don't have a problem with 8cr in sub $30 knives but there are just so many knives coming out far cheaper than $60 that have D2 or sandvik or vg10 or even 9cr that it's hard to justify. It's like when Spyderco tries to sell vg10 collaborations for $200. Nothing wrong with vg10 at $100 or less but for $200 it's weak. They seem to be getting with the times and moving to s30v for those type of knives recently. Crkt should do the same in the low price range or they are going to be swept away by a wave of civivi, tangrams, bestecs and riukes. All of which are cheaper, have better QC AND have better steel than Crkt.

I am very new to knife community having recently been drawn into it from the EMS world where I used several Spydercos over the years. I have zero knowledge on steel types I see mentioned in several posts. Where can I get a good introduction to the different kinds of metals used along with a description of their strength and weakness? I did a few Google searches but only seem to find pages arguing "X is better than Y" which is not helpful.

Knifesteelnerds.com is decent, and Cedric & Ada's channel on YouTube is full of nice videos that examine the performance of specific steels using generally available knives and a consistent process. It's a good way to get a bit of context for the steels being discussed. Basically avoid nonspecific 'stainless', though many good modern cutlery steels are stainless, and look for knives offered in well-regarded standard steels. S35VN, M390, and 20CV are basically the gold standard for midrange and better knives today. There are lots of other great steels, but those three are common and offer excellent performance for the tasks you would expect a folding knife to do.

Not a big CRKT fan but this looks great. I can live with the steel but I’m a lanyard guy so I’ll have to pass.

I can’t disagree with you. At this price it should be at least D2 or even VG10. My obsession with pocket folders makes me do dumb shit though.

OMG! This actually looks like a knife! Though I’m not a CRKT fan, I opened the link just to bask in all the knifeyness. Nice design. Needs better steel. But things are looking up!

I agree with most of the comments here. 8cr14mov (AUS8, 440B) is a slight upgrade over the 8cr13mov more commonly used by CRKT and Kershaw, but it's still a budget steel. It's gonna have far better corrosion/stain resistance than D2, but nowhere near the edge retention. I really like this design. If the price was more on par with other budget knives, I'd consider it. If this came in S35VN, I'd be all over it.

MattallicAi dont get why they just wont give up these shit steels. there are lots of s35vn knives out there for well under $100. People would happily pay $10-$15 more for s35vn or something better than this soft crappy china steel. its so disappointing to see a cool design and then see the steel is shit. and CRKT is known for massively over pricing the versions of knives with decent steel, its why i havent bought a knife of theirs in ages.

Dear CRKT and Kershaw. 9cr18 exists. It is cheap. It holds its edge well. It is an ideal budget steel and if you used it YOU WOULD SELL MORE KNIVES YOU IDIOTS! If you guys keep doing this, brands like WE, Kizer, Ruike, etc.. are going to take over your market share.
