Product Description
The latest from master knifemaker Ken Onion, the Helical came to be when Ken postulated what it might look like if he twisted the rectangular handle of a knife in a vice grip. The result, like any other Ken Onion design, is an ergonomic-feeling folder with plenty of utility Read More

Torn between the two colors, anyone think D2 is worth the price?
ecolemanD2 holds an edge better. Drawbacks are that it's difficult to sharpen and is somewhat prone to corrosion. Personally, I prefer it.

ecolemanDefinitely! D2 is leaps better than 8cr for edge holding. Not as corrosion resistant as it barely qualifies as stainless steel due to a lower chromium content (without looking it up I think D2 is around 12% ss is 13% or so). but i havent had that issue with D2 even in the high humidity climate of Houston, Texas where i live. As long as you wipe the blade off after getting moisture on it will be fine. It also has the black coating which will help if thats a concern. I think its worth the extra $ and id like to see CRKT Offer the option more. Sharpening isnt too bad as long as you dont let it get super dull even with a basic sharpener. I have touched up D2 with light sharpening on a $20 lansky turnbox ceramic rod setup pretty easily. As far as the knife itself I do like the design and like ken onions work so I am considering picking this one.

I think it’s interesting that 1) CRKT is finally offering steels other than 8Cr13MoV and 2) this is a Ken Onion design that hardly looks like a Ken Onion Design and more like a James Williams design.

$50 for 8cr14Mov, no thanks. Bestecs are a better value for D2 than this.

I like that crkt is offering a choice of steels. They should do this more often. I think it would increase sales for them also.

In the description it says that Ken is a firm believer in American made craftsmanship, but the knife is made in China. What gives? It'd be nice if the country of origin was listed in the description, so I don't have to leave this site to find that information out somewhere else. With all that said, it does look like a nice edc blade. Might pick one up to use as a beater at work.

BobleeRead a few comments, saw this one and was like, "damn." Went to Knife Center and came back just to let you know that it's $59.99 at Knife Center. It dropped here at $49.99. How is $10 cheaper plus free shipping a worse deal? You calculator no work. Abacus, best one!

Daigi81You have to wait a month or more just to receive the knife if your receive it at all so I’d rather pay the additional $10 and shipping to receive it

Love Kens Style and this is Not it IMO, Ken is known for sweaping sutle curves and blades with a bit of a belly or sweep on them. That said it looks like an ok knife with a good pricepoint but it's not for me.

Knife center is selling the black D2 model for $4 less. Being new they don't have it in stock yet, but that's probably where I'll be buying this.

This looks a lot like a twosun knife, which are also made in China, but with titanium handles and d2 blades.

For some reason I always like the look of Ken Onion blades. I might buy this one.
