hyperchord24SC is super durable, long term good looking, gets a nice patina, you can wash it with water or even swim with it to no damage. This material is way beyond average leather and priced high because of low availability. Every horse just has one!
Shell Cordovan Being an Equine Leather has a density much greater than Bovine leathers. This density gives it a few unique properties, one being that it stretches much less than bovine leather, which, in this application is desirable. It has a unique temper due to being vegetable tanned and dense, it is firm without being stiff. It has a unique hand feel as a result. Also, shell is grainless. The grain is shaved off - this is what allows it to have this smooth appearance and not wrinkle like a traditional Bovine leather. The small quantity available coupled with the extremely long tanning process and the high demand all contribute to the elevated pricing for Shell Cordovan goods.
I keep saying "we" so I thought I'd share that I've teamed up with an incredible independent leather worker based out of New Orleans for this, and for future watch strap events. Between the two of us, we have a huge stock of all sorts of the best leather from around the world, and we're excited to come back for future Massdrop events. Some of the ideas we're kicking around are Apple Watch straps, straps with stitching, thick/padded hand stitched straps, Tochigi leather, alligator leather, deployants, and NATO just to name a few. The possibilities are near limitless.
What are some of the things you would like to see next?
ZZ_UPennFor the sake of expediency, I'll share a photo of a card case I made from Horween navy blue shell cordovan. It's tough to capture this color in photos in a way that does it justice. Hope this helps!
ninewalkerHi,
Apologies for the delayed response. Please contact me through the District Leather website and I'll be glad to help resolve the issue.
Thanks,
Bill
bill_districtleatherBill took care of this in 4 days after he contacted me. 4 days and I have a replacement keeper in my hands! Thank you @bill_districtleather !
To whomever else is reading, I should note that this is probably an isolated incident. The other watch strap I got from this drop has had zero issues.
Hi Folks,
It's Bill from District Leather here. There are typically many sizing questions with each of these watch strap drops, so I thought I'd try to get ahead of them for this drop. Here's how the four watch strap lengths translate in terms of wrist size:
- 105/65mm: approximately 6in - 7in (152mm-180mm)
- 115/70mm: approximately 6 1/2in - 7 2/3in (167mm-195mm)
- 125/80mm: approximately 7 1/3in - 8 1/2in (187mm-215mm)
-140/80mm: approximately 8in - 9in (202mm-230mm)
These measurements assume a watch case diameter of 40mm. Let's say your watch is actually 42mm or 38mm. All you need to do is add or subtract the difference from each number in the ranges. For example:
- 42mm watch case would change the range of the shortest strap from 152mm-180mm to 154mm-182mm
- 38mm watch case would change the range to 150mm-178mm
Hope this helps!
If you have any questions about the watch straps, please feel free to post them here or contact me at bill@districtleather.com.
Thanks!
Bill
Sounds like mine will be perfect if it will be closer to the middle. Is there any chance you could add another hole ahead of time on the 105/65mm? I'm getting it as a gift so I'd like it to be as hassle free as possible. I'm most likely getting the shell cordovan for his. I'm willing to pay extra ahead of time if you could do that as it'll simplify the whole process and he won't have to work about sending something out anymore.
WickWornHi,
Another thing omitted from the details:
18mm (pictured) - non-tapered
20mm - tapered to 18mm
22mm - tapered to 20mm
I'll post some tapered strap pictures tomorrow.
Thanks!
