Worked great until it stopped working. Drop replaced my first one after 11 months of use and the second stopped working as well after about 12-13 months
Bought in 2019, sounded great while it worked - especially paired with the HD 6XX's. Got a solid year out of it and the micro-USB started getting touchy, replaced the cord hoping for a quick fix but the issue persisted. Got away with wiggling the connector every now and then to fix it but a year later the little inner 'tongue' of the micro-USB connector snapped off inside the unit and it has been a paperweight ever since. 5/5 when it worked, 0/5 now. Can't reccomend, should have used USB-C.
Great value when it is working. Spent 2x $50 having it repaired by local repair shop.
The micro USB port is very delicate. Try not to remove the usb connection from the Dac/Amp if at all possible. If you repeatedly unplug and plug it back in, the I/O port will break similarly to how iPhone lightning cables break. It eventually completely broke off.
I paid $50 a local tech repair shop to resolder it. It briefly worked, until it broke again.
I reached out to massdrop to get it replaced under their 1 year warranty, but they could only offer me a full refund - not a problem replacement. They also would not reimburse me for the cost of the repair.
The poor build quality is why it gets 2.5/5 star.
If you can solder, redo the solder to make a more secure connection. The tech shop also covered the micro USB port with hot glue to make sure it moves as little as possible.
When it works, it’s one of the best values out there. The 02 Amp is a amazing for the price. I wish I had purchased the dac and amp separately, so I could buy the balanced Grace Design SDAC, but I didn’t want to spend any more than I had to.
The main reason I bought this was because Dell’s audio drivers are horrible and a pain to modify. I eventually installed modded drivers, but this solution works best.
This is a great DAC/AMP for anyone on a budget and has some hardware modifying experience. I use these with my modded HD58X’s and they sound incredible.
