The drivers are TH900 drivers. The tuning is a bit different than the TH900 though. These are definitely brighter than the THX00, but not as bright as the TH900. Bass extension is better than the THX00. Mids are similar to the TH900 (ie a very V shaped headphone). Slightly better soundstage than the THX00 (mostly due to the sucked out mids).
The chassis is the same as all the other top end Foster/Fostex designs. Foster makes all of creative's headphones and E-MU is a subsidiary of Creative.
I'm tempted by this, but I'm very happy with the THX00, which I just had reterminated. The only real temptation is that I like the wood on these better aesthetically than the THX00, which isn't enough to make me want to switch. But this is a great deal. Basically these seem to split the difference between the THX00 and TH900 in signature. These are probably technically better in some aspects, bass is more powerful and crisper, and extends better, but I actually slightly preferred the signature of my THX00.
MysticSolaryes, got to do a head to head with the THX00, TH900, E-MU Teak, E-MU Walnut and Denon D1000.
wasn't crazy comprehensive, but it was certainly enough to tell you that it is certainly a V-shaped headphone.
KozicIt is the same driver as the TH900. I wouldn't call it a modded TH900, because I hate the idea that any headphone with the same driver is just a "modded version" of a different headphone. But it is certainly the same driver as the TH900, yes.
fjrabonThanks! Would you say the thx00 is much more balanced in that the mids are not as recessed and the highs smoother? How do male and female vocals compare?
marcocoloNot necessarily. Cup design, pad design and and a few other factors can influence sensitivity. Also sensitivity isn't an exact number. It's usually a +/- 3 dB number from unit to unit for a given model. Headphones are more than just their drivers.
