red9350i'm a bass head as well, and im buying these to sort of replace my SZ2000's, I'm expecting better mids and highs but a little more defined bass response maybe not as much.. personally i want 2 12" subs per ear haha too bad it'd break my neck. What are you upgrading from??
red9350From the information I've been able to gather purpleheart bass gets a slight boost of approx 2db while lower mids get decreased by about 5db. (http://goo.gl/R0v0cr)

If you haven't heard either the Mahogany or Purpleheart th-x00's; my honest suggestion would be to buy the one you find most aesthetically pleasing. I bet both would satisfy your basshead needs.
VoicedI am using an old Adcom GT500 II Pre-amp (super head-phone out) and am impressed with both Bass and full-range. I suppose your experience will depend on the source, my humble opinion these Cans are great for the money!!!!
CB750maniacThanks for the review/Preview.
I am really looking forward to getting the Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 Headphones .
I just picked up the Massdrop x AKG K7XX Limited Red Edition and am not quite satisfied but looking for the "Bass" I am still missing.
ilockemupFunny, I have those as well, the Red edition. Yes, they are light on bass, better in the high details, not too bright but the TH's are a much better overall balance for my liking and when I set the bass to 3/4, they're as good as having a sub in you head! 👍
CB750maniacYes,
I am awaiting their arrival and also am wondering about the break in period, Whats your recipe for break in?
I've heard different versions and wonder if there is a factory suggestion for proper break in for optimal performance?
I find the Mahogany Honey Brown much more appealing as far as the wood grain is concerned.
ilockemupBreak ins, I do all head phones the same way, right or wrong. Hook them up to my Adcom GTP-500II and set the Tone In to On, the Contour to On, Bass 3/4, Treble to Full. Then play music with my IPad ranging from hard rock to Mozart, (I don't pollute with Country ;) ). Then let it run non-stop for 150 hours. Occasionally listening for any anomalies. Very pleased with results. Only exception is my IEMs from EmpireEars, Zeus XIV, I used my Oppo HA-2 amp with IPhone. Settings were Low Gain, Bass Gain On and volume 50%. With fourteen drivers in each ear, these are the most incredible IEMs I've listened too. For detail, they beat everything in my collection. Hope this helps.
