Typical FOX Knives quality, not terribly practical blade profile, handy Emerson Wave
This is an extremely cool looking knife with neat camo scales and very little practical use. Blade The blade steel is a "N690Co - Cobalt-enhanced stainless steel." It's also used by other makers (Extrema, Spyderco, etc.). N690co sharpens more easily than most steels, holds an edge fairly well, and is decently corrosion-resistant. The blade profile might make it a bit tricky to sharpen, depending on your method; I don't foresee this getting enough use to need sharpening. The blade geometry is not useful for anything but opening boxes with the tip and (heaven forbid) hostile organisms. I've used several karambits in EDC and most (Ontario Knives Ranger EOD, Quatermaster, Mantis Knives, etc.) weren't impossible to use in everyday tasks and carried better. Grip The grip is a relatively slick G-10, so don't expect it to be anything like the textured or machined G-10 that sticks to your hand. The Kryptek Highlander pattern is a strictly aesthetic feature, and I that still might have contributed to my purchase. The finger-grooves don't line up with all hands. Build The build was what you'd expect from Italian made FOX knives production folder. The blade came exceptionally sharp, the liners were mated well to the scales and all but one screw was properly set. The build almost doesn't matter as this is a defense blade in the best case and a novelty item in the pragmatic case. Use I wound up giving one of these to a friend, but both of us agreed this is probably most (read: only) practical as a defensive knife, and then if you believe a knife is a realistic option and have the requisite training & practice in one of the few martial arts with a practical weapons-based system. It sits very widely in the pocket as the grip swell and curvature makes it feel like a larger knife than it is. The Emerson “wave” feature allows for very rapid deployment of the blade as you pull it from the pocket. Please, be considerate of those around you before showing this off as it could be considered rude to even brandishing. The blade opens so fast that you can actually knick yourself on the tip.
