Originally employed as an everyday carry knife in Southeast Asia, the karambit has become an edged implement known for its utility in self-defense. FOX has updated the knife and brought it into the 21st century with this folder Read More
Wow I'm shocked this is on here. I thought they would NEVER fold and allow the 599 on any other 3rd party website.
Well a little too late because I already purchased the XT-599 almost over a year ago. This is an excellent Karambit and would highly recommend it.

I just had a Bestech Hornet knife seized by The CBSA; they state that it is a "weapon" that can be opened with one hand by pushing the flipper tab with one finger (duh)
This knife it's on its way to me and I am afraid it will also be seized. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks!
XymnslotThis one is smaller and fits most hands better. For the longest time, this one was only available one place and at a premium cost which I think required buying the trainer with the knife.
SylentKnightSame thing's true of the kukri -- it was and is a Nepalese peasant tool that they used throughout the day as kind of a utility tool, on everything from chopping wood to making dinner. But for some reason when the po po see you with a foot long bent steel blade in your hand they don't go 'ah, it's just a rural villager who knows the value of a multipurpose knife' so much as they go for their sidearm.
The fox 599 is a great karambit in over all design when it comes down to business(straight work). The finger choils gives me a confident grip no matter what way I hold it during stress, I know I won't accidentally slide my fingers over the blade like I might do with the (very fun to play with and still capable)crkt provoke if my finger wasn't locked into the ring. Light and nimble, easy to deploy lightning strikes... If you come to me looking for action, and I have the 599 on me... You going get action!
Harrison Ford was supposed to duel the guy with his whip, but had dysentery during shooting and when the scene was being filmed he suddenly needed to shit again so he improvised, pulled out the gun and fired, and the dude playing the swordsman had the sense to drop. True story.
The truth is? I'd much rather be at close quarters with someone with a pistol in their fist than a karambit. Of course, I'd prefer to be at close quarters with neither, and at range I'd rather deal with a knife than a gun -- but given the choice at close range I'd rather be stuck with the guy with a gun.
At any other distance the karambit is only as much of a threat as their ability to close that distance is a threat, whereas a guy with a gun can shoot what he sees at range, this much is obvious, right? Advantage gun. Dude pulls a karambit on you from across the room, you have many options, including the sensible one which is hauling ass. Not a decisive move, drawing the karambit from across the room. Kinda like the scene from Raiders.
But if a guy in the same elevator as you pulls a gun, or a taser or whatever, unless they're some sort of trained trick shot, you will have a chance to control it or get it from him before he shoots you. They aren't awesome odds, but you will have a shot at it. If he pulls a karambit, your ass is dead as disco. It's not the sort of knife one takes to go looking for a fight, but it is the sort you tote around in case you need to end one.
MavrxOnce you get used to it opening letters, boxes, cutting twine or rope or stuff like that is fairly easy, at least with the larger 479 model. It's awkward at first, but that doesn't last, you just need to learn how to use the curvature of the blade to let it do its work and then you might even find it an improvement for many tasks. I wouldn't bother personally packing a separate knife unless I knew I had some task that really requires a straight edge or a knife with some belly to it, like slicing.
It all boils down to what you do in a typical day. I'd hate to try and do crackers and cheese with this thing, but it opens boxes from Amazon and manila mail envelopes with equal ease.
LuckyLuke575Well spotted. Many people equate size with danger when it comes to knives, because we grew up watching swordfights on TV, and bigger is always better. But some folks will tell you that geometry is what makes a blade dangerous, and there are few knives more optimized for violence in an enclosed space than a traditional karambit. The Fox folders are a couple steps back from full on traditional karambits - for instance they don't have a sharpened top edge, for shredding forearms when people block, and of course they're frame locks and not fixed blades like old school bits are -- but they're still quite wicked.
reswrightOh yeah shit man, I can imagine people getting cut to pieces with these. That's why I just settled on a pepper spray; I can't afford to get involved with hospital bills and court cases.
First off retail price for these is not 179. Most sites have them for 129 at most. Second, get a karambit trainer and use that first. Third, this company has some products with wildly low prices and other things that are close to retail b/c they cant beat everyone all the time as any business knows. That being said you still save like 30 bucks on this and this is a great karambit. Doug Marcaida, edged weapon expert, backs this product also.
