"Your FX Audio PH-A1 Headphone Amp has shipped..."
omg dhl :(
I just come here to see what Djdaniel writes after every status update at this point. =) Don't disappoint me!
Any word on when we will be getting out Amp that took 3 weeks to ship? someone has gotta ask!
Djdaniel
It doesn't even say it sent yet on my transaction page. Classic, lmao.
worth getting for my 6xx's? Seems to match colorwise so I'm interested already. And the price is really good.
doreato
Yea if you dont have an amp yet for your sennheiser this will really do some good. your sound willl be more clear and louder.
hello @MattTakaichi , i am told by massdrop support to ask you about the product information. may i know if this amp is compatible with 220-240v 50hz power? thank you
wolnavi
if anyone is wondering, massdrop support has answered my question:

there isn't any low/high gain control on this amp, is that cause for concern?
you just have to crank the volume up for those hard to drive HPs
Will i need any other cables or anything to get this working for my pc? And will these work well and do I even need this with ATH-M50x's? Sorry if this is a stupid question, kinda new to this.
Doobie
No, your M50s should have came with a 1/4 inch adapter these types of amps.
Is the Fulla 2 worth 2x the price as this?
Alberticus
The Fulla 2 is also a DAC unlike this one which is only a headphone amp. The Fulla 2 is also not as powerful. From personal experience with the Fulla, distortion can be heard if you turn it up too high. This FX-Audio amp is more for if you already have a DAC or if you are looking to push something that's hard to drive.
Is this compatible with 230V?
Would it be worth getting this for my Audio-Technica ATH-M50x?

Probably not.
FrenchEnthusiast
You don't need it for your ath m50x's. maybe it will make the sound more clear but i think the difference wont be huge. but if you have money to spend and want to expand your headphone collection later on this is a great addition
The FX Audio DAC-X6 seems to be the same amp with a 24/192 DAC for 15$ extra on Amazon, am I wrong? It doesn't have any line in rca's though like the PH-A1
This looks awfully similar to the SMSL sAp ll
abnormalcup
Ya that's the only reason I decided to check this out.
abnormalcup
It could definitely be an OEM rebrand but I would check first. If it is a SapII in disguise then I could not recommend it enough especially at this price.
Is this freevolt? 220V compatible?
Don't know if anyone else caught this in the description, but I found this funny:
" Powerful yet compact, it can drive more demanding headphones—like the Sennheiser HD 650 and Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX "
Figured they should have picked a different second pair, considering the HD 650 and HD 6XX genetics are identical ;)
What's the differences in performance between this amp and the Objective 2 amp?
Agison
They are extremely similar, in fact, this amp has a much higher output at the 32/33 ohm range. Objective 2 would be better at 300 ohm headphones and higher(but by a very small margin). I was also hesitating between them but when I saw how similar the specs were and the 70 dollar price difference, I went for these.
do i need this for my fostex thx00 purplehearts? or will there be no difference?
wolnavi
It will make the bass hit harder, and overall sound quality improve, everything will be more energetic. Even with headphones that don't need an amp, benefit from one, and this one has good power. You should get it, or if you can afford it, the Schiit Fulla 2 @ $99. The Schiit Fulla 2 will increase soundstage, make the bass slam very well, etc. Fulla 2 is my fac dac/amp combo of this decade.
schiitisnice
alright thanks
Is the AC Adapter 230 V compatible?
I have this unit in it's DAC/Amp version (FX-Audio DAC X6), and yes, it is pretty powerful. It powers my HD 6XX at below half (around 10 o'clock on the knob) for quiet songs.
Mancue
I'm totally new to the DAC/Amp headphones world and currently have neither for my PC/headphones. I'm looking to get a pair of HD 6XX or AKG K7XX or similar headphones to replace my AT M50s. Do you think the DAC/Amp combo unit is a suitable entry level match or should I look for a dedicated DAC?
xrispies
I don't actually have any other DACs to compare. But it is miles better than my onboard sound.
To people wondering if this is powerful enough, 160mw at 300 means that it's good enough to power most mid tier headphones. Pair this with a good DAC and you'll have a good system.
Is this any good for the akg 7xx?
EmielBoon
also wondering
It looks like the same chassis as the Sony PHA-1, but is it internally the same?
Ephruz
They look very different internally. The Sony looks like a class D amp, the FX like a class A or A-B amp.
Wish I could find some reviews for this thing, but seems to be too soon.
Any comments on this budget amp ? Anyone? Bueller?
