Received my Lutsen pack, a 55L, and boy, it surpasses expectations. What a fantastic pack! Every feature is so well-planned, thought-out, and executed. The pack fit is incredible, adjustable, form-fitting, and just pure genius, a perfect balance between weight and durability. Adjustments are easy, and the 55L holds enough for a nice weekend or even a week, if one packs light. Nice stretch pockets front and sides, even with nice little cut-outs in the side pockets for the compression straps to fit through, so the pockets are still useful for water bottles, etc. That's a really great design, something not oft seen on other packs. This is easily five stars. The most comfortable pack I've owned in a long time.

Excellent value on a very versatile pack. I am 6ft tall and typically go wi 21" torso Large hip belt. The pack feels small on my frame but fits comfortably in both areas without problems when loaded appropriately. On the other hand both my sons who are same height but smaller can use it and while i wouldn't reccomend it I think it would work for my wife who is 5'2" =)

I purchased the 45L pack. First and foremost, I like the adjustability of the pack frame. This allows several different sized people in my family to use it. The pack is extremely comfortable under a load. I have had some trouble fitting all of my gear into this pack so maybe I should have purchased the larger one. On the other hand, I believe that smaller packs are the future. I was able to fit the larger Bear canister inside the bag, but it takes up a lot of the real estate. I just need to figure out how to minimize my gear and get this thing packed. One minor complaint is that there are all together too many straps on this pack. Overall I think it is a great pack.

strictmashineAgree with you whole heartedly on the ease of adjustment of torso length. Would not hesitate to lend my pack to someone else and use my back up for a trip. Once you know your particular settings, the markings make it easy to return your pack to its original settings. Another adjustment which no one has mentioned so far is that the hip belt is built in two sections and can be adjusted as well. Its a nice feature as it allows you to position where the belt pockets sit on your torso and how useful they may or may not be. Again the markings make it easy to return an adjusted belt to its original position.

Absolutely love my Lutsen pack. Went from a 70L 16 oz. ultralight pack to a 55L Lutsen Granite Gear pack and found that all my gear fit inside it just as well as in my previous pack. Pack shape is as important as pack volume and the design of this pack makes it very packable. Once adjusted it was super comfortable and the best part of it was the backplane did not wrinkle when loaded up with 32 lbs of gear including 3L of water which is pretty much a must hiking in our area. At roughly 3.5 lbs it was well worth the extra weight and at the end of a day I was less tired than carrying the bit of extra weight because the load could be stabilized more efficiently to minimize sway than my old pack. Perhaps not ideal for a thru hiker but for someone who goes out for a week or two at a time its a great compromise between going ultra light weight and going for comfort. I am right on the borderline between needing a small and a medium pack and was able to adjust this pack to a perfect length for my torso.

I've had this pack about a year (I have the 45 l), but only took it on one backpacking trip (sad face!). I have also used it for just local training hikes (loaded up). I think it's a nice compromise between a real ultralight pack and more regular backpack with its frame and back padding. I have an unusually long torso for my height, so I like its sizing range and adjustable length (I think adjustability in hipbelts is probably less necessary). In general, it carries well, with nice transfer into the hips and nice padding in the shoulder straps. It took a bit to get the fit dialed in for me, but that's pretty common. The rolltop is nice, offering the possibility of dumping the top lid. Clear design failures include: the hydration bladder sleeve, which is way too small and makes getting the bladder in a real chore, and the waist belt pockets, which are ridiculously small (you can fit in maybe one bar or a smartphone--if it's not one of the big ones--into each). In the end, I kind of wish I had held out for the GG Crown X60 drop that came later, as I am transitioning to more ultralight set up. The 45 l is a fine size for the relatively short trips I tend to take and going lighter means that I'm also taking up less volume, so it's working out fine, but my alternative for longer trips is my much-beloved, but also super-heavy old Dana Designs Terraplane. Getting a bigger ultralight pack would have probably been a wiser investment. But I think for someone who wants good support, but to go a little lighter on a weekend to 3-4 day trip pack, this is a nice sweet spot.

JohnfromMOOne thing I have found from years of backpacking and having experience with 6 different extended stay packs over the years is that no hydration sleeve is adequate in any pack unless you go out with a half empty pack. Most of us end up carrying our hydration bladders on the tops of our pack loads nestled as close to our backs as packing skill and gear selection permits. Cannot say that I have experience with a huge selection of bladders but most seem to leak under pressure and the only way to get them in the sleeves is to put them in first and then pack the rest of the gear which then generally does not fit well. However the sleeves work well to store folded emergency rain tarps, ground cloths, cooking cozies, maps and other flat stuff you will not need to access on an ongoing basis or unless your pack is already half emptied. Having your bladder at the top of your load also makes it easier to refill during the day if you need to and especially if you are loading up on water because you expect to make a dry camp or think a water source may have dried up where you plan to stop.
