Named for the Greek goddess of wisdom, good counsel, and artistic endeavors, the Grifos Athene ballpoint pen is designed to inspire all three. It’s handcrafted in Italy’s Aosta Valley from solid sterling silver, and engraved with a variety of guilloche patterns—one of which is meant to resemble grains of barley, a traditional offering to the gods in Ancient Greece. The slim profile includes a pocket clip for easy transport and a twisting mechanism on the cap that extends and retracts the ballpoint tip.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of seven different guilloche patterns. You can also choose your ink color: Black or Blue.
The guilloche technique originated in the 18th century, and uses a manual diamond-cutting tool to engrave metals with elaborate patterns. Over the years, the craft has been handed down from generation to generation using machines that are operated the same way they were three centuries ago. Rare among pen companies today, Grifos has an in-house guilloche machine that allows its silversmiths to engrave on-site.
