I would assume it's obvious from the price that these are not hand-crafted masterpieces from Japanese blade masters, but judging by some of the comments and reviews, it's not so obvious to everyone. It's my understanding that the Higonokami was originally intended to be a working man's knife, and the one I received fits that role perfectly. It's functional, not flashy. Its layered blade construction is visible, without any sort of fancy hamon etching. It arrived quite sharp, but on a whim, I brought it to shaving sharp with about 10 minutes of work on 1000 grit wet-dry sandpaper and a little Flitz polish.
I considered knocking off a star for my sole complaint; the hinge is tight enough that I'm unable to open it with one hand. Oiling took it from difficult to open to a typical two-handed affair. That being said, I never expected this to be a flickable knife, and in a pinch, I can open it one-handed with a distinct lack of grace. Furthermore, I expect it will break in with use, and eventually I will be happy that it arrived tight instead of sloppy.
Some have complained about the dimensions; I just measured the knife I received, and the blade length is 3-5/8" (92mm), OAL is 8-5/16" (211mm). Spine thickness is 2.78mm per my cailipers. No complaints from me.

I purchased one of the larger model for myself and the smaller one for a friend. We were both surprised at the quality of the blade - It is pretty sharp and keeps its edge. I use this knife almost everyday for household tasks and as a multipurpose woodworking tool. The sharp edge and pointed tip make it great for cleaning up edges and nooks when I'm carving.
The blade remains securely closed when it's in my pocket and as long as I have a firm grip, the blade stays open. Best knife I've ever had for the price!

It’s reasonably priced, aesthetically pleasing and razor sharp. The size is relatively compact so suitable to carry everywhere you go. Easy to maintain if you spend a little time to study some useful tips from YouTube. Love it guys!

This knife is extremely sharp and it is comfortable to carry. It opens very easy and if it sticks a drop of oil will loosen it up. I have over 1000 pieces in my collection and this knife fits in perfectly. It is based on a traditional style and it honors that style perfectly. This is a great knife to add to or to start a collection.

This is a knock off. Take my advice and keep away. This is a Chinese stamped blade blank. Yes it is laminated but the knife is bigger, thinner, and significantly softer than an original.

Poorly made. The blade has rusted a lot since I received, all from just sitting dormant in my bedroom. The swivel has loosened and in general it feels cheaply made.

I was interested in this knife due to its rustic peasant appeal. It is a very poorly made knife. Fit and finish are way below what I was expecting. It’s a cheap knife but so is an Opinel and the finish on those is far superior to this one. I tried to clean up the blade and sharpen it. There must be something wrong with the temper or heat treat. I cannot get it to take and edge at all. So it’s an interesting letter opener I gues? Would not recommend it or purchase it again. Buyer beware!

The knifes finish was the worst i’ve ever seen. Covered in grease when it arrived at my place and covered in finger prints. The edges of the handle are sharp and square, doesn’t feel nice in the hand and the blade isn’t in line with the handle properly. The folding action is not smooth and blade comes quite dull from the factory as well as general grime and random grit from storage/the factory.
If you‘re going to spend $15 on a knife. Get yourself a Kershaw folder. Both are made in China but the Kershaw will have a much better fit and finish all around for the same price or maybe $2-4 extra. Well worth it.
Avoid this knife sadly.

Can't say what I expected honestly, but this is a pretty bad knife. Shipped still dirty with metal dust and clippings, the handle has some sort of discoloration/abrasion marks that span the entire width. Rust was visible at the hinge between the blade and handle. Overall a terrible product. If it were apparent that some care was taken while making the knife I could excuse the design faults such as the sharp handle edges. Sadly this isn't the case.

The version that arrived was very different form pictured. There was no cut out to access the folded blade. The hinge was stiff despite the oil, and the blade started to tarnish and dull very quickly. It was scuffed quickly during deburring and whetstone sharpening, but that did take care of the tarnish. Some of the tarnish turned to rust on the blade only after a couple of months of causal use. The handle is very thin and fairly hard to grip while using, The thumb lock is great, and it's shocking that is not a more common design in pocket knives. The blade is unevenly honed, and the edge had some very small chips in the edge, which were sharpened out. It is very lightweight and thin, and there is zero balance or heft when cutting, which feels wrong in the hand. I use it to open thick plastic packaging like butter, which is fantastic. Overall, i am tempted to get some of the more traditional brass handled versions to compare.
