TAsURead my entire comment (yes I was wrong thinking this one would come in a box, but I explicitly mention they can come in these pouches). I also describe what the knife itself should look like.
Well, i did some research and according to uniquetactical.com only the ones that come in blue and gold boxes are the authentic ones. Although anyone could fake a box if they could fake a knife. So the ones we got in plastic could be fake, or could be authentic if the manufacturer switched to plastic. Perhaps md can clarify it for us, since authenticity/historical accuracy are a big part of the value of this knife.
I think you want to keep in mind here that you're buying a sort of "novelty" knife with some historical value. No, it doesn't have a liner or frame lock. So you absolutely must keep your thumb on the flip tab to keep the blade stable as the tab extends from the front end of the knife where bolsters would be so that it's more like opening a straight razor rather than a flip knife. Not exactly a convenient or smoothly operating as a one handed opener. And the blade isn't 3 or 4mm thick like most better quality flippers. However, it's very sharp. Lots of these sell on eBay. I saw this model at $14.10 with free shipping. I purchased another model from Kyoto, Japan about six months back for $7.98 and it's very much like what's described here though I don't believe it to be triple layered. Nice but not all that handy as a carry knife.
INTELLIGENDAIf someone manages to miss the information about the lock in the one paragraph description, what makes you think they're going to even see your comment? Lol
You're comparing an apple to a bunch of oranges here man. It's a $15 (or less, if you're a smart shopper) friction folder. Who's comparing it to "most better quality flippers"?
Different product, different purposes, far from "novelty"
KavikWell, man, it goes like this. We only speak for ourselves. Not everyone, and I'd say a substantial part of that "not everyone" is savvy to what you're saying. They're more impressed by the jargon and good photography. And on the contrary, there's no reason not to compare this knife with its other better competitors. That's a fairly common practice and often done commercially. Just saying.....
MarkBeeeBecause many knives aren't made for stabbing?
When slicing, all the pressure is pushing on the tab you see hitting the spine here. And always pushing the blade away from your fingers.
A thumb gently resting on that tab would keep it open even if this wasn't friction fit, but neither of mine swing closed on their own anyway.
If you use it for what it's designed for, i see no reason to be concerned.
I've only had two lockbacks fail in the 30-ish years I've been using pocket knives.
One was just a really crappy carnival prize knife, probably worth all of $3.
The other was me being a stupid kid and using a cheap (Frost Cutlery, i believe Lol) lockback as a throwing knife, lobbing it at a piece of plywood 🙄
To be fair most countries that ban knives with locking mechanisms do it in a way it isn't a blue collar safety issue. There aren't really any blue collar working applications that an appropriate safety or fixed blade will be just as good or better.
Pocket knives are a tool of the everyday man, and 9 times out of 10 a non positive lock will do the job. Most people don't ever cut anything more than tape and food and so a non locker like this or an opinel will work just fine.
Also most countries have knives as easily confiscatable by police, I would rather have 10 of these than one $200 knife that could easily be taken away.
Just received and don't know what to make of it. Must have shrunk during shipping. The Massdrop description reads "3.5" blade length and OAL of 8.5". I didn't know Higos were that big as the ones I already had are 7" and a longer version intrigued me. Well, what arrived was a petite 6" OAL with a somewhat unusual blade shape (It's the smaller black-handle knife under the brass handle knife in the photo). Had the description been honest I would have passed on this. Fortunately, it wasn't a lot of money.
Also, the blade itself is very dull. I'm sure I can get it sharp but don't know if it's worth the time.
I picked up one of these a while back. Supposedly, original intention was for kids to sharpen pencils at school.
Versatile little tool, I use it for all kinds of stuff from sharpening pencils to leather crafts. I used it to cut the leather for it's own little sheath ;-). A little stone time and stropping gets it sharp as a razor .
@kyleemj
Pleeaaassse tell me someone screwed up and posted the newest batch of Higos under the wrong previous drop, and that these are NOT actually the SK steel version?
These can be bought all over the place for $15 or less for the given model numbers
kyleemjThat's...better, but still not really a discount over average retail pricing. Getting harder and harder to find worthwhile deals here since the whole "image change" 😑
But thanks for fixing it all the same, at least it's not a 300% markup now lol
The price is right :-) This thing's a box cutter for cripe sake. Pimp gear, low rent gangsta. That hooker on the corner's EDC !
Sleek, lethal, and cheap - lol
Package arrived minus knife, plastic holder only.
Massdrop very quick to respond with a refund and bonus.
Dang. That was a cute knife.
Oh, well. Respect to MD.
OkanaganguyLame i never had that option, i received that lame plastic pouch and the knife handle extremely flimsy and the knife overall finish with the lever, is extremely rough
OkanaganguyI only received the packaging... no refund so far
MassDrop contacting me, with help, apparently Canadian laws changed ( or some one just stole it out of the packaging and the mail man delivered just packaging lol ) so knifes are harder to acquire but a technician did some magic and I have received mine!
Thank you massdrop, best place to shop
