Providing optimum audio quality for both beginners and professional engineers, the JBL LSR305 features a design that is heavily inspired by JBL’s flagship M2 Master Reference Monitor. Engineered with similar technology such as the Image Control Waveguide, the LSR305 Studio Monitor provides the listener with neutral and accurate playback Read More
10 lbs WITH the amp built in...there's no way you are getting remotely hi-fi sound out of these. Sadly, I don't really have a valid alternative at the $200/pr price range. I have a pair of $300/pr Chane A1.4 which get raved about, and even those I think are far away from hi-fi.
You don't want want amazing hifi sound to create or mix/master music. Otherwise your end result will sound great through those speakers, and those speakers only. It will generally sound bad on any other non-hifi sound system (aka the sound setups that 99% of people use). That's why producers and audio engineers use completely neutral, uncolored speakers: it's honest sound. You don't buy monitors for hifi sound lol
These monitors do not sound good. They sound like 100 dollar monitors.... heres the problem low cost monitors can not afford to use quality components and a wave guide for the highs will not help that nor fix that problem... you will just sit there listening to the speaker turning it up and giving your self tinitus trying to hear the changes you want to make through the noise (which sounds like a blanket over your mix... even the cheapest one cone monitors auratone or the like cost more than this and need to be paired with a bryston or the like amplifier because they arent amplified...
basically regaurdless of the quality of convertor you have, even if its high end... you will be listening to mud... Im not here trying to be rude im trying tell you if youve ever had the pleasure to listen to Focals or genelecs or PMC or ATC or ns-10's... save your 100 bucks and save up for speakers that are completely transparent... not some monitors that cost less than a good pair of headphones your wasting your money
If you're talking about the Alpha series I disagree entirely. The 305's are very much in the same league as the entry Focals. For stereo imaging I would GLADLY take the 305's over the hyper-directional Alphas. Sure, the 305's won't compete with $800+ pair monitors like the CMS series or entry Eve audio monitors, but the 305's have no problem competing at twice their price point. None at all.
Also, note that the JBL's have a 5 year warranty, where as the Focals only come with two years. If you're the kind of person like me who travels from show to show with monitors, this is very important.
Thanks again for joining the drop with the community. We submitted the group’s order with the vendor for the JBL LSR305 5" Active Studio Monitor shortly after the drop ended and they have begun preparing it for shipment.
Once the group’s order is ready at the vendor’s location, they will send the bulk shipment to our fulfillment center where we’ll break it up into individual orders and ship them off to you as soon as possible.
The moment we receive confirmation regarding the shipping schedule from the vendor, we will provide you guys with updated information on the status of your package.
Expect an update from us on 2/3 or sooner.
I just emailed support and got a swift reply. The shipment is in their warehouse (just arrived from the manufacturer). They are breaking the orders down and should expect to start shipping on the 17th of February.
Good to have an update.
At $115, it's $230 for the pair plus $30 shipping for a total of $260. Right now they're at $280 on Amazon which is really high. For example, I got a pair for $182 shipped on 6 Dec 2015. So you'll save a tiny bit of cash on the current high price on this drop, but I don't think it's anywhere near a good price.
Definitely phenomenal speakers though.
What a MEH price! You can easily get these less expensively any number of places. These were recently $250 a pair with free shipping for black and $200 a pair in red. This looks like a HIGHER price, except you have to wait for the drop to end and god knows how much shipping delay. Massdrop, we need to have fewer mediocre "deals" like this.
