Best deal on living room sound out there
This review is based on the previous drop of the SK8Y (June 2018) without the wireless surround speakers. I wish you were able to get those as an add-on this go around. The deal is just as good or better than last time. If you are a nut about configuring surround speakers to get every last golf clap perfectly located on the previous hole while you hear the faint call of a cardinal from north by northeast, this probably isn't for you. We've enjoyed the simple setup and the even sound -- upgraded from an old trusty bi-wired bi-amped set of speakers. Perfect complement to a 55 inch TV (just about exactly the same width) and no wires to run. I'm a convert to speaker bars from the LG SK8Y. Movies come through without drowning out voices, and video games have a really full stage. I'd be excited to see what the addition of the wireless rear speakers do for everything. Favorite features: simple to setup, low profile, no bright blinky lights when the room is dark, ARC return is easy, easy to stream audio Not-so-favorite features: Atmos only supported with HDMI passthrough, which does not support 4K. Personal taste maybe, but none of the sound modes seem to add any value, so we leave it on Movie all the time. Chromecast is just audio casting from a device, not the full Chromecast experience.

Looks good, sounds good. Does not achieve high volume level needed for movies.

I bought this as an upgrade from the integrated, rear-facing speakers on my TV. I wouldn't say I was blown away by the sound or anything but it was of course a huge upgrade from what I had before, so I'm quite happy with them. The speakers are very solid, with clear sound and solid build quality. They look great as well.
One negative I will include, and the reason I'm docking one star, is that I'm not a fan of any of the sound modes other than the standard. The one for movies is especially bad, adjusting the levels so drastically that the voices come out a little distorted. Not a huge deal because the default mode is good for whatever, but worth mentioning.
Overall though, a very good set and one that I'm sure I'll be using for a long time. I don't know if they'd be worth it at full price but the drop was pretty significant and for that price, I think they were an excellent buy.
