Designed by Italian knifemaker and artist Attilio Morotti, the Maserin Atti gentleman’s folder is as aesthetically pleasing as it is comfortable in the hand. It features a 2.8-inch blade made from CPM S35VN that’s heat-treated to an HRC of 60 for better edge retention Read More
This feels so nice. A few slightly strange design aspects, basically the design of the lining (not flat) inside seems weird, like it'll be susceptible to dirt. I'm a lefty, sooo- Oh well. But the wood is lovely. Blade and edge great. Thick, but it can sit on its side. But the wood! I can't stop playing with it.
swrossYes...yours is like mine. I’m no expert, but I’d say that “N690“ etched in the blade would indicate the steel it’s manufactured with. N690 stainless steel is by most of the research I’ve done a well respected steel of good balanced properties that is fine grained and takes a really nice edge...as mine does. I have no problem with the steel. Had this knife been advertised N690....I’d have eagerly bought it then...and I still would now.
That said.....it was advertised as having CMP-S35VN steel....which is arguably better steel all things equal. I don’t think I’d really ever be testing the knife to extreme limits. But if you google the price of blade blanks of equal size....the N690 is no where near as expensive....so there’s that! I love the knife, and am surely keeping it...matter of fact I’m currently coating the scales with Tru-Oil.
I just wish the knife i received was the knife I bought.
And an explanation from Massdrop would be nice....
Got mine today....very nice knife...a little stiff..but smooth action. The burl on mine (green) has a unique pattern with some orange in it...love it! The finish of the scales is very dull/matte. I think some Tru Oil will really bring out the grain....stay tuned on that. So.....the real surprise is that it seems to not have the steel advertised...mine has n690 on the blade...which is a nice Austrian stainless steel....but it is in no way close to the composition and production method of the CMP-S35VN. Kind of interesting that Maserin did this.......
What a let down, mine came with over 50% lockup and some defects in the wood , Maserin has some quality control issues and Massdrop does not sample what is shipped or I would have never received a knife of that quality, I guess even on Massdrop it is buyer beware.
Just got mine today, very dissatisfied with the design. Hard to open with one hand, wood handle looks cheap in person, and corrugated metal makes getting thumb to unlock more difficult. Good thing Amex has purchase protection and I can return to them.
I'm on the fence with this one. I've read good things about the steel in the blade, but im concerned about the "corrugated" liners. They dont' appear to fit flush to the scales .
There are lots of nooks and crannies for dirt and dust to accumulate from pocket carry or everyday use. Not sure how to keep it clean.
It is a gentlemans folder. Its very capable but with the wooden scales that are untreated, I don't think it would be a good edc. Its a nice carry to drop in the pocket of your suit incase you need a blade to cut a cigar or something of the like (not that it couldn't handle more)
It is a small gentleman's folder, but fits like a glove in my medium-sized hand--can just get all four fingers on it. The actions is very smooth. I think $70 is a great deal for this knife.
SureSh0tI don’t have a model with bolsters, only full length scales. The pivot screw is under the scales on mine. Not sure about how to get off the models with bolsters.
