Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

No selling derivative works, plain and simple, JDS labs is technically breaking the license in order to do this.
They did say they will be offering DIY kits to remedy this situation in the future, since you can technically mod your O2 all you want, you just can't sell it.
A few people are talking about how moving the power to the rear of the unit (or having RCA inputs, or rear 3.5m inputs) is a violation of the O2's license. This not necessarily correct.
The O2 license protects the PCB design and the components with which the amplifier is meant to be built. Changes to the PCB design will break the license, but JDS labs and Mayflower figured out a solution. Instead of changing the PCB, they solder jumper wires to the appropriate PCB connectors and run those wires to the back of the enclosure where they place inputs. Thus you have rear power without altering the PCB and thus the license remains satisfied.
Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions.
In the course of this discussion we’ve seen tons of people requesting additional/different features like rear power input, rear RCA inputs, 1/4” headphone jacks, etc. While we’d like to add options like this, our manufacturing plan for these O2s has a tight schedule and any major deviations from the original design would increase wait times meaningfully (changes proposed, plan re-done, contracts re-negotiated, etc).

I am very curious about this. The specified Kobiconn 163-7620-E and listed alternatives (Kobiconn 163-7625-E, CUI PJ-002A, Multicomp MJ-179PH and MJ-180PH) are all through hole components. I didn't see a panel mounted DC jack listed, unless I missed it. In this case, does this mean JDS Labs and Mayflower are not following the specs and license by not using these components when they sell a rear power jack O2? Or are they attaching these to the rear panel somehow (because there aren't any mounting holes on the PC board at the rear?)? I ask because following the components used in the build seems to be a big deal regarding complying with the license.
A comment on rear power - running wires carrying an AC signal across the PCB will introduce EMI, which could affect performance. If I remember correctly, NwAvGuy does suggest using a twisted pair of wires running along the power management side of the PCB to minimize the EMI on the more sensitive parts of the PCB.
