So... I'll be researching/learning what might optimally drive my HD6XX keeping in mind that my current endgame headphone -- the Beyer T1 would take even more power. What are some recommendations? Would the current Massdrop Teac do the trick?

BigCabDaddyActually the T1s are easier to drive than the 6XXs. Anyway I wouldn't go with the Teac, it's a wierd speaker Amp/ headphone Amp/DAC combo. What's your budget for a DAC/Amp?

CokemanThe T1 is harder to drive, though the difference is minuscule. It will need about 3mW more than the HD6XX to reach the same volume. Anything that gives 105mW @ 300 ohms will be able to give a good listening volume of 80dB. Some choices are Schiit Magni (never on sale), O2 (currently dropped), Aune T1 (currently dropped), Little Dot (currently dropped), but not the TEAC, it's no where near powerful enough for the HD6XX nor T1.

CokemanHuh, I thought the higher the ohms, the more power was needed? At the moment, I'm really happy with the sound out of my LG V20. Would it work to just use it as source, DAC, and sort of a pre-amp stage into a bigger amp? To answer your question, I was hoping no more than $200-300 at least at this point in the game.

BigCabDaddyYou are correct about ohms and power requirement. You can use the phone by itself or just as a source with an external dac and amp. If your happy with the V20 driving it I wouldn't rush to spend money for more. I'd look for retailers that sell dac/amps. Take your cans with you and compare. If you hear a pleasing difference then consider upgrading. There are many options here and elsewhere depending on what you want to achieve and how you plan on using gear. Desktop, portable etc.

BigCabDaddyNot always, it depends on efficiency too. The T1 is far more efficient than the HD6XX, it is more than 400% more efficient. But being higher impedance also it needs a higher voltage, in the end it kind of evens out with the T1 just needing 3mW more at 300 ohms.
