This update is for members who joined the HD 6XX drop from November - January.
Updated 3/9
I’m happy to announce the third (and final) batch of HD 6XX has arrived at the warehouse! The headphones are going through quality control checks and will soon be prepared for shipment.
We’ve emailed those of you who are in this final batch, and we expect your headphones to start shipping next week.
Thank you all for your patience throughout this fulfillment process. We’re glad to be shipping these headphones ahead of schedule, and we hope you enjoy the HD 6XX!
Updated 3/6
The second batch of headphones has arrived at the warehouse and is now being prepared for shipment! This batch is about 3,900 headphones and we’ve sent an email to those who are in this second fulfillment.
As of this morning over 1,800 headphones have shipped, and the third (and final) batch is expected to arrive at our warehouse by the end of next week. I’ll provide an update next week with the current fulfillment status.
Updated 3/2:
Hi Everyone,
We have an update on the shipping status of the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones. Sennheiser will be shipping the headphones to our warehouse in batches. Once each batch arrives it will go through quality control checks, and will then be prepared for shipment. We will be shipping out the batches based on when members joined the drop.
We’re excited to announce that the first batch of headphones has arrived and is now being prepared for shipment! This batch is roughly 2,000 headphones and we’ve sent an email to those who are in this initial fulfillment.
The next batch is already on the way and is expected to arrive at our warehouse by the end of next week. I’ll provide an update next week with the current fulfillment status.
We are on track to have all units ship by our estimated ship date of March 28.
AveryCSo can those of us that received emails expect to see these shipped out early next week? I'm assuming you don't work weekends and it's already late on Friday.
Update - Monday Mar 5th
Yeehaw - I got an email at 7:40 this morning EST that my package has shipped. Super excited. Thanks Massdrop.
AveryCWell, that's just dandy. Now I have to buy my new stand ahead of time. Thanks Massdrop for inconveniencing me with these beautiful cans a month early.
Ugh.
But really, thanks dudes.
AveryC Got my email today. Almost a month early!? Nice Massdrop! Can't wait to receive my HD6XX's. Huge thank you again to Massdrop for making this product available to us and for understanding what the community really desires. Going to be pairing the 6XX's with my JDS labs OL DAC and Darkvoice 336SE OTL Tube Amp I purchased here at Massdrop. Will report back on the pairing and 6XX's shipping time when they arrive!
* For those wondering I ordered on Nov 22, 2017 for the March 31st, 2018 Ship Date 6XX drop.
**Update: Got shipping notification 3/5 with tracking. Woo!
BoomouchI have not received tracking either although I got the "shipping soon" email. I wouldn't sweat it, it's pretty unreasonable to assume it will ship until early next week. I'm not worried, we're still almost a month early!
AveryCI was one of the ones that received the email (was one of the first 500), and I am super excited. I am definitely looking forward to getting them soon-ish, though the wait has not been as long as I thought it would be.
~~~UPDATE 3/8/18: They arrived here from the post office via FedEX today, 2 days earlier than expected.
Now it's time to break them in.
3/5/18 Update: Received an email from Massdrop today with a tracking number, nearly a month earlier than expected shipping date to boot. Currently on their way.
3/7/18 Update: Delivery has been updated from 3/10 to 3/9. All-in-all it has been 7 days from first email saying that they were shipping earlier than expected (3/2), to receiving a tracking number (3/5), and then to delivery (3/9).
SkylineOwlI have a SHP9500 set of headphones, I would temper your enthusiasm , super uber excited.............really?
Headphones will not CHANGE your life!
jkittlesenI also have the SHP9500's and I am still pretty excited to get my 6XX's.. I don't think I saw anyone say they would change their life, I see enthusiasts being excited for a highly regarded new addition to their setup.. New things are exciting.. ..............really..
BlakeMorrowIt's "opened" a couple of different times the past 4 months. If you bought on Nov 22 or23rd of 2017 and didn't get an email I'd check your spam folder.
PimNThe drop started in November so...short answer is not likely. I got in the drop a month before you. So it looks like you'll have to wait at the end of the line.
SonicfreakoutAlright, that's unfortunate but the 28th of march is just a little over 3 weeks away. I've waited for two whole months already, I can handle a couple of more weeks, I hope.
AveryCThanks for the update! I am anxiously awaiting your update this week, as I joined the drop on Nov. 30.
Hopefully I will be part of this next shipment! The wait is killing me! :)
SonicfreakoutI joined January 17th, right before the drop ended. I know I'm probably in the last batch, but I should get them before April right? My birthday's April 1st and I'm going out of town for the 2nd-5th, so I'd love to have them before then.
lousyloryJust got an email saying I'm in this next batch, ordered Dec 20th. Getting closer... I think they'll all be out the door in the next 2 weeks, maybe even late next week. Here's to hoping this crazy "nor'easter" doesn't blow my headphones away.
AveryCHi Avery,
That's GREAT news !!!! :)) I just joined the drop this afternoon and it said in the email confirm that delivery was August 13 of 2018 !!! EEEGAD :O
So I'm glad to hear the "actual' delivery should be sooner.....right?..... :|
techwizSame me, I ordered at 21 Dec, got the email as well (but no tracking number). I was expecting I will be the fourth batch, assuming 2k unit each batch ( I'm the 6500th ).
techwizHi Tech,
sssooooo What then does that mean exactly? Are you saying that they say August 13, but I'll get it like julyish?....if that's what you mean, then that is going to be agonizing ! :(
hidefjunkyI mean expect them to ship on whatever day Massdrop says they’ll ship. They usually add a little extra time in case “stuff happens” but theres no guarantee stuff won’t happen and make the shipment late. Don’t anticipate an early ship.
Zombie_XYeah I joined the drop on 11/27, drop completed 12/1. If you ordered 12/2, you're not in the 2nd shipment group, I believe.
I received my email confirming that they'll be shipping "soon" on 3/6. It states that I'm part of the 2nd group of shipments. If you haven't received an email yet, you're probably just part of the 3rd shipment.
som3dudeYeah, that's not true. These are solid cans but there are better sets out there, let alone types. Planar, electrostatics, fancy Dynamics drivers, etc. These are a great intro pair to whet the appetite on my opinion.
techwizOk thanks Tech. Another member here [bobaloo53 I think ?], said to just forget about it, and before you know it, you get the email saying it's shipped. I think I'll also take someone else's advice and focus on an amp to hook up to my pc. I plan on looking at grabbing up some of my fav electronic tracks from beatport in the .flac format.
hidefjunkyYup, that’s pretty much what you have to do... keep your mind off these purchase. That being said, I’m absolutely guilty of checking this page for updates at least daily lol. Can’t wait...
john-doeOdd, says the drop completed at the end January. I dont think there were back to back drops. I had seen some people who joined after me already got a shipping notice.
Zombie_XThey ran multiple drops between mid-November and mid-January to collect funds sooner (or more often), but they waited until they had collected about 10k orders before handing it over to Sennheiser it seems. Also, since there was so much interest in the last few drops, it looks like they're gonna continue rolling the drops to try and get more orders in... except this next 10k batch arrives in August, so they'll probably keep rolling drops until about May-Juneish.
AveryCOdd, I noticed some people here ordered days after me and they got a tracking number already. I got the original email saying Im in the first batch but no shipping notifications yet. :/ I ordered my pair on Nov 26.
Oh well my Magni 3 arrives today :)
AveryCGot the email that I was in the first batch, but still no tracking number. Ordered November 26th. The wait is killing me!
Update 3-8-18: Just got my tracking number!
3-14-18: Scheduled delivery is today, but the headphones haven't moved since Monday 3-12-18! They're probably going to be delayed another day... :(
UrsaLupusYa, me too.... I followed the link a few weeks ago after watching a thumbsup interview on YouTube from HardwareCanucks. I followed the link....only to find it had closed :( I was like "NOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!"
Then a day or two ago, I saw they were running another drop. . . . I was all over it like white on rice man lol :)
LoverofMusicI also placed my order on November 29th. The information provided above, along with the email we received says that they have our headphones and are going quality control and they should ship out by the end of this week. That means we'll get our headphones early next week.
RayFI'm sure there are a few people who find your sarcasm comedic and entertaining. Most, however, would agree that sarcasm and bullshit has no place in forums where people are trying to make financial decisions.
I'm not saying you have to stop being immature on the internet. I'm simply stating that your sarcasm and "sense of humor" does not belong on websites like this.
ZopeGreat DAC/amp. Dodgy with the USB driver I hear, but an excellent product nonetheless. This will be my choice for a future desktop upgrade. Currently rocking the ifi iDSD nano black label.
ImADuckAnd whom, may we ask, elected you Hall Monitor today, Monsieur Canard? Or were you just kidding in your own way, while attempting a poor Ed Rollens impersonation?
And how and where did you come up with those ridiculous exaggerations of "a few" and "Most"-- are you secretly Sean Spicer?!! I say we put it to a good old fashioned vote (with no Russian meddling, mind you)!
All those siding with Duck Man, raise your wings and quack loudly for law and order!
All those in favor of a free country, free speech, free beer, and total anarchy, raise your fists in the air and shout defiantly: "Did he say free beer?"Which is it then--beer or order?!!
AveryCSo the package arrived to a FedEx Smartpost Facility in my city, and the status is "Departed FedEx Location" this morning. Does anyone know if this means it is out for delivery or is it just going to another facility within my same city?
Just want to know so that I can be home to receive it.
bluestankThink it means Fedex handed it off to the Post Office for routing to your Postal Carrier. Would be nice if it arrived today, but I'm not sure they're that quick--good luck!
som3dudeI read about issues but v2 seems to be a lot smoother. Just run the install and from device manager install the Vista64 driver. I've done it on two PCs so far without a hitch. You'll love it!
som3dudeThe newest version of Windows 10 has support for USB audio 2.0, so you don't need to install Schiit drivers if you have it.
Basically Schiit was hacking around Microsoft taking 2 years to offically support something that Linux and MacOS have supported since the month it came out (USB audio 2.0), so you can stream 24/96 over usb
On the house my friend--no charge.
You know, if you eliminated all of the posts where guys (like me) are pretty much just complaining about not getting their headphones, all you'd have left would be a very few guys telling you they did get theirs. Now where's the entertainment in that? Who would be coming back to read that happy-face drivel? Okay, maybe that duck guy, but for the rest of us? Hell, there'd be more excitement over in the Quilting Community. I know for a fact some people here registered solely for the comments, they don't want to buy anything! And I say, What's wrong with that? It's not like Judge Judy is on all hours of the day, right?
AveryCI got mine today. I genuinely have lost count of the amount of times I got goosebumps from music....it's unreal how good these are. Thank you for the opportunity Massdrop- these are an incredible value.
ShadyMercenary
Yeah, there's a lot of that go'n around. Don't worry--I met my last two x-wives in the Massdrop Cooking Community so keep your chin-up buddy, there's somebody waiting for you just around the next drop!
AveryCMine got shipped too! (December 22nd). Does anyone have a recommended headphone stand? I'd like a metal or wooden one. It can't be one of those hanger things, it must be a desk stand. I don't really care much for the quality, but it must be heavy enough so it doesn't get tipped over easily. I'm looking for one but there's so many of them. Any help/recommendation is appreciated!
RayFSo I just unboxed my HD6XX'S today. So glad I bought a Magni 3 before they arrived. Its immediately obvious why people says upgrade your transducers first. The AKGs I bought in Oct were an upgrade to the old sonys I had, and the Magni helped the AKG. I'm four songs in with the HD6XXs M3 combo. My Lord, its like hearing these songs for the first time. My Spotify test playlist (HD6xx Test) so far is Miss You, 1999, Those Shoes, Dust in The Wind, with about another 25 to go off all genres from Nat King Cole to Katy Perry, to Mozart, to Sturgill Simpson, the Beach Boys, Dylan, and many more.
Seriously, I wasn't expecting this kind of immediately obvious difference. All this from Spotify "extreme" with an iPad air 2 as a source/DAC.
Even my wife will be impressed with the SQ.
The clamping force was very tight on my head. Link for YouTube video to reduce clamping force.
https ://youtu.be/iNxK-NwSR5U
RensekYou're a lucky man (and you have good taste in music)! I guess I'll be following your lead: amp first, headphones second (chances are good my Jotunheim will arrive long before my 6XXs). 'Till then, I'll bide my time with a pair of QC35s--knowing full well you'll be hearing things I can't as I check out your Spotify test list!
And thanks for the clamping force adjustment video--I've been told more than once that I have a big head!
RayFYeah, while scrolling through Amazon I found these mannequin type heads, they look quite cool, but they brought me to the idea of maybe using a lifesize bust of some person to use as a headphone stand. They are pretty expensive though... A lifesize bronze bust of Stalin was over 2000 euros. Maybe I should just get a normal headphone stand, haha.
PimNI would avoid using a head shaped stand because it keeps the ear pads compressed all the time and decreases the lifespan of the foam inside the pads, resulting in losing some sound quality and comfort.
RayFHaha, I'm not. I wouldn't even pay $50 for my own head as a sculpture! The dinosaur looks pretty cool, do you have a link for it? (I'm guessing it's also not the cheapest option out there by the way).
Deathbed
I get it now--I was reading with my eyepatch on before!
BTW: Just got this very non-specific update from Massdrop:
"Hi Everyone, We’re excited to announce that your Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones have arrived at the warehouse and they are now being prepared for shipment! We just received the third batch of headphones from Sennheiser, and the headphones are now going through quality control checks. We expect them to start shipping next week.We’re looking forward to you receiving the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones ahead of schedule!"
Pretty sure it means they paid the Pirates' ransom after all!
MrNefariousI'm genuinely interested in what you think of the OL+336SE. I am considering the exact same set up. Got my HD6XXs in Dec 17 and been using a Fiio E17K.
RufusI use the JDS Labs OL DAC to my Darkvoice 336se. Great combo with some Tube Rolling. I also use my Darkvoice as a Tube Pre-Amp to my Emotiva BasX A-100 to drive my Planars. I find that in this configuration I can keep all my beloved Tube warmth and width, but have all the Bass slam and impact of a solid state. Best of both world IMHO.
Hope this helps :)
Lasher
LasherThat is awesome to hear. My 6XX's should arrive monday, I'm excited to hear the combo myself. You say it's great with some rolling... I recently picked up a 1950's Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB Tall Boy, any suggestions for the 6AS7? I'm looking at some RCA's at the moment.
RufusI am coming from a FiioE10 which for me was a great little performer for many years. In preparation for the HD6XX's I purchased the Darkvoice here on massdrop. Using the DAC on my FiioE10 and bypassing the Amp for the Darkvoice instead, even on a low impedance headphone like the ATH-M50 where the noise floor is significant... the difference is cavernous. I was floored. The reproduction of brass instruments, string instruments and voices especially are significant. The other major difference that speaks to me is the wider separation of layers or instruments within a song. Really impressive. On the stock tubes no less. Adding the OL DAC is like putting on a pair of glasses, it simply cleans everything up just a touch. Makes the edges of notes more defined and whole and overall improved the imaging quite a bit. I'll have the 6XX's in my hand Monday and I'll be able to report on the full setup then.
MrNefariousI run a Tung-Sol 5998 and a Tung-Sol 6SN7 Black Glass Round Plate. My fav. combo so far but those 2 tubes cost about as much as the Darkvoice lol. I have a ton of other tubes but that combo is by far my Fav.
Lasher
AveryCI was fine for the 1st 2 months. But here i am receiving a "hey get ready we are about to ship" email. I am no longer fine. Time to distract myself till i get my shipping notification
I didn't get anything either and my purchase date was Jan 9th. That 3/9 update was pretty vague and didn't do much to rest my concerns (about the Somali Pirates). Still, I'm hoping for the best, and making do with what I've got, until they get here...
PimN
Found this on Amazon and got it today. Not as political as a Joe Stalin bust, or as impressive as a life-sized T-Rex head, but it's holding up my BoseQC35s without collapsing under the weight!
OakbingIt does; it's weighted (won't fall over) and has a silicone-like pad underneath to protect your desk/furniture. The portion that comes in contact with the your headband is padded too--no metal comes in contact with the headphone's padding. Not bad for $21.
FirestaryaI hear ya--I made the move from black a while back; now I'm strictly an Aluminum kinda-guy.
But I say any color you like is the best color--as long as it isn't Rose Gold--damn I hate that color!
RayFIndeed! Though I am a little worried about the pad squishing part now that some people on here brought it up... But I did ruin a pair of headbands for my Grados sitting it on the corner of my desk (It's got this permanent tri-force sign on the top of the band that digs at my scalp at times), but seeing as this one's got a giant plastic band it should be safe compared to the flimsy faux leather piece + a thin metallic band for the Grados...
techwizOr I could say: Something for the ears, something for the soul!
But don't worry, I use them with ink, for my pens--not nearly as sinister as it appears.
AveryCHmm.... Now that you say all the emails for the final batch has been sent out... I haven't received an email regarding my order (ordered on 12/27) which I'm assuming should be within the 3rd batch... no?
Should I be worried or is the email goblins still making their way to Somali to deliver my email? Then I shall prepare a grand reception... o > o and a coffin just in case your little guy doesn't make it over here. No seriously though I didn't get an email is that normal?
OakbingThe irony of using the term "normal" in a conversation about a Massdrop, drop--is not lost on me!
And just a note to anyone at MD who may be following along...I DIDN'T GET MY DAMN EMAIL YET!!!
RayFWelp D: We have comrades! The IT guy at our office didn't get an email either. They probably updated too soon with all these emails not being sent out.
OakbingI got my tracking number several days after I got the email about the shipment, they might still be working through shipment #2, it was quite a bit larger than shipment #1.
OakbingAccording to my sources, the Madagascar pirates have sold the lot to the Zanzibar pirates and are headed to Swaziland for final inspection and then headed off to Burundi.
ShadmanThat's what they're saying, but so far I haven't even gotten a shipment email yet... and there's some who ordered after me who's already gotten theirs. I guess they weren't very precise when it comes to shipping order...
DinoJoeThe IT person at our office is no longer a comrade, he got his shipment email! D:< Now I'm the last man standing in our office that still haven't gotten a peep outta MD about my headphones XD
Oakbing@RayF Hi there! I looked into this and you were both on the email list for the third batch (sent on 3/9). Apologies that you never received the email (you might need to check your spam folder). You should get a tracking email by the end of this week :)
AveryCWOOOOooooOOOoooWWWWwwww sooo excited I can barely contain myself!!!!!!! All my other equipment has already trickled in so I'm just patiently waiting for my 6xx's. Now I just need to save up for a Bottlehead Crack :\
The path of the audiophool is not kind to my wallet :')
ZhucchiniIf you don't want to deal with a lightbulb or too much solder-work going with solid state Jotunheim is a good alternative. For the amp it's about the same price I think.
RufusI got my 6XX's yesterday. Do it. The OL DAC, Darkvoice 336SE and HD6XX is a shockingly good combination for the money. I played brass in a symphony orchestra for many years, this is the closest I've come to being back in a rehearsal or on stage. The stock tubes sound pretty good on their own, but throwing in a $12 Tung Sol 6SN7 driver tube made it even sweeter. Couldn't recommend it more. Value for money is off the charts. What a combo this is.
OakbingThanks for the recommendation. I did read good things about the Jottenheim and it sounds like an awesome amp, but I'm just intrigued by the crack because supposedly HD650's and BH crack makes magic.
Also, I like the DIY and tweakableness aspect of the Crack. As Hifi gear can get so expensive, but also subjective, it's a nice idea to take my time and tweak an amp to my liking, don't you agree?
Maybe that's just the romantic thought of a broke student, though. Lots of time, no money.
Cheers.
ZhucchiniOh you're definitely gonna like the Crackhea- I mean Bottlehead, the Jotunheim is what I would suggest for the HD6XX in the solid state realm, tubes are a whole different story and I can't put things together if my life depends on it ; A; ... but yeah would be interested in getting my hands on a Crack kit if I am feeling adventurous one day.
AveryC
If that's true, it's very good news indeed, and we thank you profusely (and take back all the mean Pirate comments we made earlier).
On the other hand, if you are mess'n with us, you are so walk'n the plank!
MrNefariousFor clarification, when you say a week of run time, do you mean leave it on for a week to burn in or just normal use (a few hours a day) for a week?
I feel like to fully appreciate the HD6XX you need an OTL amp.
AveryCThere's a winter storm on the east coast, causing delays at DHL. The package will probably not leave the US until it's any better. Sad times... hope that storm passes over quickly.
RufusJust a week of use time. Nothing fancy, no leaving it on. Just using it during the day while I'm programming. Enjoy it, lemme know if you have any other questions! I would definitely change the stock tubes. I just changed the power tube today to a cheap sub $20 RCA tube and somehow sounds a lot better than the factory tube. Really impressive.
fizzix1January 9th! Just received my shipping notification but no tracking information returns yet. I don't know if anyone in Canada that ordered earlier received it yet and can tell us how much time it took to deliver it? :D (Although there is a storm right now that might slow things down :(... )
AveryCQuestion for anyone that owns these; inside the box, there's like foam or something shaped for the headphones to lay in right? Can you take that out of the box without ruining it? I might want to take that foam thing and mount it inside a drawer as a kind of nice place to keep it.
AveryCMine arrived at my house in Australia today. It took nine days from the shipping notice for the cans to leave New Jersey, travel to Frankfurt, then into Australia.
Best news is I love them.
Thanks ka Massdrop and Sennheiser.
PimNI'll check later today when I get home, but I think it's glued in. You might be better off mounting the box itself... it kinda resembles a watch box, which is pretty neat. You might be able to remove the hinges at the top or at least the pins from the hinges.
MrBigGlad to hear it!
There's a little confusion on my side, now. I've received two notifications. The first lead me to believe my headphones and cables were shipping together, a newer notice indicates a second is order is shipping--yet both list headphones! So who knows--maybe I'll end up with two pair of 6XXs? Or maybe just two cables and no headphones?! Could go either way...
RayFMine's on its way from NJ to Somali, it'll be Monday when it arrives.
Then the monitor riser for my Jotunheim will arrive on Tuesday so I can move it back home and set it up there. (Currently in my office because well, I don't have any headphones at home that needs it.)
I did get that walnut headphone stand just now though, I was lucky enough that the three pieces of walnut wood is close enough in color so it doesn't look weird, but sadly the polish on the wood is a bit lacking and is not smooth like a baby's butt. Going to research on how to smooth it up as I don't really like the current slightly rough feel on the sides...
OakbingEasy fix; just need a little elbow grease and a some Watco!
First you have to sand it down with medium, then fine sand paper--'till you get it just the way you want. Then apply one or two coast of Watco Tung Oil (no joke). The Tung oil seeps into the surface to protect and seal the wood (and the work you just put into it). The finished product has a nice, soft glow, very smooth, but not shinny or glossy--more like the sort of finish you see on Danish furniture. You can get a small can at Home Depot or Lowes. Here's a link to the product page:
https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/watco/tung-oil/
It's going to be your Masterpiece!
techwizThank you for checking. The headphones are already in Europe, I expect them to be here by the end of next week. I'll see whatever works best. The 'watch box' idea is a good one! If that fits I might just do that.
AveryC The tracking page says it's already in my country now, should be here by Tuesday I think. Looks like I won't have to pay any import fees. I hope so, that'd save me about 50 euros. So excited to test these out!
stevejaQuite right--obviously not my native tongue ;- )
AveryCJust opened the box today.... Initial review.
Not impressed. Just like most cheaper Sennheisers, the headband is waaaaay too tight and shaped for narrow heads. Feels like a vice. I don't like the bare metal supports, nor the exposed foam on the underside of the headband, feels cheap af. The special massdrop "color" doesn't seem to be there. Of course the cable with the adapter is dumb, they should have left the 1/4" plug on there instead of the mini adapter. My everyday use 559s sound just as good and are built so much better. I'm replacing the cable and will let them break in before I judge too much on the sound, but so far the fit and feel is not making me want to keep these.
I own 205, 280pros, 380pros, 559, and now this 650 clone, and over the last 35 years of being a dj and editor (video and audio), I've used almost every brand imaginable.
EDIT:
Later that night...
If you expand the band all the way, they fit MUCH nicer for large heads. My older 280 pro headband snapped when I stretch the headband out... And I had 205s on 6 final cut pro editing suites, couldn't even put them on the top of my head. The 559s fit perfectly.
Anyhow, all that doesn't matter now... I had time to really listen to them tonight for a few hours, and they're much better than my old cans, maybe not in the fit, but they sound soooo much clearer than I thought. A bit bright, but less "canny" than the 559s. So yeah, have a Snickers before you write a review. I was convinced I didn't like them, so initially I didn't like them.
fumaI felt the same way when I got mine last week. After all the hype, somewhat underwhelmed. I started using them out of my AV receiver for movies and gaming and have been enjoying them a lot more. In this scenario, they have a lot more character than when used purely for music. Who knows. That may change over time as my beefier amps are on the way but currently they're relegated to movie and gaming sessions.
jaydunndidditWell, if you've listened to some higher end headphones/ iems you're probably not going to get blown away by the 6XXs as they're really just mid-fi stuff nowadays. It's a good choice in terms of sound quality and value, but let's face it, something $200 ($300 ish if 650) is not going to be able to beat the high end stuff introduced nowadays. While it's good to have expectations, it's better to know what you're buying into first before expecting rainbows and unicorns.
If you're coming from a $20 pair of crap headphones then you should be able to hear a difference, if you can't then well, I guess you know you don't need to move any higher than the $20 pair since you can't hear a difference. Better invest the money elsewhere that will make a difference for your entertainment experience. Maybe your opinion on this will change a bit when you have the higher power amp, but again I don't think it'll be a HUGE difference unless your current setup is lacking in power to drive the headphones.
fumaVice-grip clamping band... yikes, my big head is already hurting from reading that line... But the other comments in regards to foam and metal support, you can already see that on the drop pictures... not sure why that's a problem now. The color only appears under direct sunlight, I think in most cases indoors it's just a very dark shade of blue, almost black in color.
Adapter being "dumb" because it's a 3.5mm is also not a very sound argument. This change was made because this is Massdrop, most people's device and source is probably not going to need a 1/4" adapter, so the 3.5mm change is for convenience for the masses. If you don't like the cable just buy a replacement cable for your device, I bought a balanced 4 pin XLR for this headphone because I know I'm not going to use the 3.5mm. Again, this was already noted very clearly on the drop, it shouldn't be a reason for complaint.
It sounds the same as your 559 and not as well built. Welp. I guess you only need to spend $70 for headphones then :D b. Great way to save money! Now go flip the 6xxs online for $250 and make some $$$ ! YEAH!
OakbingThat may be the problem. As I keep diving deeper into higher-end gear my context of 'good' is changing faster than I realize. Don't get me wrong, though. I still very much enjoy them, just not for music. With gaming they're actually very competent and provide the details and 'oomph' one would expect. When listening to music is where I feel a bit let down as I have heard better. But then again, we know how people blow these things up to be the 'end all be all' of headphones. Maybe I bought into that hype a bit too much but I am still enjoying them for what they are. Sadly, they just made me want to chase the dragon even more to get to that next set that will finally make me say "I'm done." At least, for a good while.
OakbingI will say, the clamp pressure caught me off-guard as well and that's something I've never complained about before. It's not painful or end of the world but it is definitely noticeable. I ended swapping to Dekoni pads and that has helped tremendously. Their materials just feel better especially for those of us that wear glasses.
techwizI know, wishful thinking ^_^. That's what I have to tell the wife, sell off old sets that stay boxed, and then I'm off back to buying more stuff only for her to ask "honestly, how many sets of headphones do you currently have?". It's a vicious cycle, really.
jaydunndidditThere's a video somewhere on this page that shows how to loosen them up a bit. I'm sure I'll have to make some adjustments--I've been told I have a big head.
jaydunndidditYeah, I get that feel. I went from a pair of $10 Skullcandy to a $1100 CA Andromeda, and at the time I was like holy shit I was literally listening to shit all these years, cut to now I just feel like the Andromeda is okay (no longer feeling like holy shit every time i listen to them), and will be my "standard" when I listen to other stuff and judge whether or not they're bringing anything "new" to the table. I keep thinking what would be the next "step up" from my current setup, but I already know the truth, it can be better, but only just a little bit better, and at the cost of a medieval castle, which frankly I feel is not worth the small increase in performance. It's about enjoying the music, not buying a more expensive system.
Currently the Andromeda is able to satisfy my need for musical enjoyment, and while I don't think the 6XX will beat my beautifully machined emerald colored aircraft aluminum goddess I'm sure it'll be a different kind of experience, and it's more comfortable to wear headphones when I'm at home. (Gotta give my ear canals a bit of rest from being violated 8 hours a day, even if it's by a beauty like the Andromeda.)
The 650s which the 6XX is based on is known for its good low end and extremely spacious sound-stage, and very good detail retention. This may also be a reason why you're really liking it on gaming and movies, where the sound-stage portion of the headphone gets to shine at its best. In terms of music, depending on what you usually listen to, the 6XX may not get to flex its most solid muscles due to the way the music/ song was recorded, and as a result fall flat on expectations.
IF you want an "okay I'm done" experience, maybe go for a pair of STAX and see how you like them. (I would rec the L300 or L700) That pair of "headspeakers" was quite an experience at least for me. However the band/ foam/ and everything besides what it sounds like is complete garbage and cheap plastic D: ... So lots of DIY you will need to do to make them comfortable... maybe.
But yeah, once you get used to the sound, you'll always wonder if something else is better, I've already tried my best to curb that feeling, but I still time to time have that "mighty need" to go buy myself a Schiit Yggdrasil because... well I just heard too many good things about it but the price tag and the extremely long warmup time is what's holding me back... for now...
AveryCThey came in earlier than expected.
So far so good. Great sound, a much bigger soundstage compared to my ATH-M40x headphones.
For me, even at an uncomfortable level of volume, sound leakage is pretty minimal. Much less than I expected! Either I listen at very low volumes or some people are just overreacting.
PimNYou just might have a more sound-absorbent head than other folks--who's heads are likely harder, and therefore tend to bounce more sound back into their surroundings! Your's is the more desirable trait ;- )
techwizYour 'watchbox' idea works pretty good. It fits in my drawer, but there's one slight but not so slight problem. It only works when the headband is on the smallest position, otherwise the box won't fully close. It's kind of a chore to put the headband in the right position every time. I'm not yet sure how I will solve this.
Edit: Actually I tried the initial idea of just using the foam now, and wow. It fits EXACTLY in my drawer. It's very snug and it looks super clean (sorry for the crappy photo).
AveryCYay I'm supposed to get mine tomorrow, after only 4 business days since it shipped :D Happy to live in Montreal, not too far from New Jersey hehe
RayFMine's still in transit from Arizona for 2 whole days... delivery is supposed to be today at our office, but so far there hasn't been any updates since two days ago. Can't say I'm exactly patient now as half a day has already gone by... Hopefully the Fedex truck makes it to our office before we close lol... D:
OakbingFedEx Ground doesn't update tracking during weekends, even though the freight normally moves. My understanding is that after FedEx hands off to the post office, there's still another day involved. If it's straight FedEx (not Ground), then today may very well be you lucky day! BTW mine were in Chambers, AZ all weekend--maybe hang'n with yours?
tr1cycleIt's supposed to be today by end of the day, which got me kinda worried as our office close around 5:30PM and if they treated this as a home delivery they may take up to 8PM to ship... and last time they did this to me for 3 whole days before finally arriving on time D: ...
AveryCI made my order in January 2018 and receive my 6xx a week before the due date, so I want to say thank you :-)
Currently listening to them via my Samsung Note 8 and the LD Mll tube amp. Absolutely beautiful sound. Very happy UK resident.
RayFUpdate on mine it's finally arrived in California! Though it's in Chino, CA, which is literally just 40 minutes drive in normal traffic, yet it's telling me it won't arrive until the 21st! It takes 2 days to unload and sort a truck of boxes... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.................... I guess FEDEX Smartpost is pretty lame after all D: ...
OakbingWell, they did what they were paid to do; get it to the closest postal hub and drop it. From here on in it's government work--that's a little slower!
RayFOh no it's far from reaching a USPS location. If anything USPS is actually faster in getting their stuff to our local Post office. Usually when I see something heading into the sorting facility for USPS from customs (I buy alot of stuff from Japan) it only takes til the next day for it to arrive at my local post office for delivery, and it usually happens before lunch.
The tracking on this Fedex "Smart"post is still in their smartpost facility in Chino, meaning they're probably done for the day, and will then travel to some other “sorting” facility in some other place within California tomorrow, THEN if they are feeling merciful they'll send it to a USPS facility, OR they can ship it to yet ANOTHER Fedex sorting facility, unapologetically add more dates to your delivery date, until finally they get around to ship it to the USPS facility where it'll go to my local post office for delivery the next day.
At this point I just pray it arrives by the already delayed date of 21st from today, instead of potentially sometime next week as I can see happening at the rate this is going.
Seriously gotta stop using Smartpost... please. @AveryC
now these..........................................I am done for a long while...............living under a bridge in Austin TX at the moment ;)
jkittlesenHaha, you got a buncha stuff to keep you company though! :D ... I might join you in the future when I finally pull the trigger on that Schiit Yggdrasil LOL.
jkittlesenBy the way I can not tell any sound difference between solid state( Emo A100 ) and the tube( Dark Voice), my old hearing must be bad, blind test !
jkittlesenIf some folks can hear a diff..............................wow they are better than me!
I wanted to hear a diff, but really...................nope!
jkittlesenTypically you won't hear a major difference between similar grade dac/amps, but as you get used to them (also depends on the kind of music you listen to), you will start to be able to pick out some of the smaller differences.
Usually I'd say a solid state is more "edgy" in terms of sound, it has a certain sharpness that's very noticeable in the mids/highs, well, let's just say it sounds a bit more artificial, though the truly good ones will be able to alleviate most of that feeling.
The tube amp will be more "round", that is a bit more relaxed and warm. I haven't listened to a whole lot of them to give you any useful comments regarding them, but overall they will have a more organic sound than the solid state.
It is all dependent on a person's personal taste though, some may prefer the crisp and somewhat artificial sound of a solid state (it is by no means a bad sound, just think of it like an enhancer on your photos, it makes things pop out more, but at the same time it takes a bit of the smooth texture out of the original photo) While others would like to hear a more relaxed way of presentation with the tubes, so something that's not as boomtastic or sharp, but delivers a rich, warm sound that has the feeling of effortlessness to your ears.
OakbingI hope with time that will come to pass. I do get a sense of what you refer to regarding the Dark Voice, I do seem to find myself plugging the headphones into it more often!
By the way have been listening to jazz most often, thank you for your insight!
jkittlesenAh, a fellow jazz listener! :D In that case from what I heard the tube is generally more suited and the "easier" way to go, however there are some solid states that are also very good for Jazz. In my opinion tubes are a bit too expensive for my budget, so it's a bit difficult for me to get a tube setup going for now... In that regard my Jotunheim paired with my CA Andromeda is sufficient, but for some recordings the sax/ horns will be a little too sharp for my ears. Vocals though is quite amazing to me, though I suppose the Andromeda has a major part in that regard as well. (I do really like a more forward vocal though so the preference may be different as well.)
OakbingYou know, I've always wondered--where does one apply to be a Somali Prince? I think I would make a good one! I've watched this movie many times...
RayFRay, got mine yesterday. High-end motherboard audio has the amp to make it loud but I can just tell it's giving it all it has to power these things. Nothing "mid-fi" about these cans, imo. I guess I really will need an external DAC/Amp after all.
RayFWell, in order to be a Somali prince you'll either have to be born into the royal family, meet the king on a drunken night and have him lose a bet to you and give you the title of prince, or be abducted by the Somali pirates only to find out you're the king's illegitimate son from when he traveled abroad twenty some years ago... D:
MrBigLucky guy! Or maybe not? Will you be the next Audiophile to dump $3,500 into your system, as you chase the elusive butterfly of audio nirvana? Be careful--this way madness lays! Kidding--I'm sure you're a very sensible individual (probably).
You bring up a good point though about whether a quality built-in (motherboard) DAK has what it takes; I'm very curious about that too. I have an iMac that sounds very nice when playing through the headphone jack to my JBL powered monitors (plenty of volume and lots of detail and texture with quality music files). At some point, I'll be switching from the headphone out, for the USB to USB connection on the Jotonheim for headphones and the pre-amp for the speakers (via balanced XLRs). If I can't hear the difference when everything is rerouted that way--I'll be very disappointed (and most likely have to dump another $3,500 into some more crap)--meantime happy listening and keep us all posted ;- )
MrBigIf you don't do close listening you will probably not be able to tell a huge difference between an external DAC/Amp and the on board one, unless of course your on-board one is really bad. Generally the difference I can tell from having an external vs on-board is like below:
1. On-board dacs/amps are usually not that great at creating a good soundstage, sometimes you will feel like music is smashed together in one plain on each side, making it a bit hard to pick apart the different sounds, especially in music where there's a lot going on at once. In that regard external ones are better at accurately presenting the soundstage and separating the different sounds.
2. On-board dac/amps are a bit harsher in their treatment of sound, things will sound more rough and artificial in that regard. A good external DAC/amp will have a smoother presentation, things will sound more dynamic and less artificial. This also depends on the recording of course.
3. Less hiss/ no hiss, on-boards depending on the grounding can have a lot of interference and noises when you plug in your headphones, if this is a problem you will want to get an external dac/amp to hopefully eliminate the problem. This usually happen to more sensitive headphones but it could also happen to the 6XXs if your computer's circuitry is just that bad... D:
4. On-board dac/amps takes no space on your table, external dac/amps take up too much space on your table.
MrBigGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....... they came out with multibit DACs for Jot and Lyr 3... well now this is going to be a real pain in the pooper... I suppose I can send my Jot back for them to swap out my current dac chip for the multibit one, but ehhhhhhhhhh.... $250.... I suppose I can buy the Lyr 3 with the multibit dac, see how I like it for $700, and either return it (I'd lost about $40 to test it out+ possibly shipping) or sell my Jot on Ebay if I end up liking the Lyr 3 more... but let's wait to see some reviews first XD... I'm not going to jump the gun on this new multibit dac only to find out it's not as well implemented as the Bifrost or Modi...
OakbingThe onboard sound does a decent job, but here's sort of what I'm experiencing: I feel like instead of a spyglass, I've been given a telescope, and now I see so much more, but the landscape seems muddy and uncomplicated, when I feel like I should be seeing greater detail. There's just this sort of jumbling of sound that I feel is unrepresentative of the actual recording. But there is fidelity. It's a good board. No noise either.
MrBigIn that case then it probably means the DAC you have on-board has bad soundstage, which is pretty common in on-board dacs. It's similar to what I mentioned before regarding the sounds all feel like it's mashed together. The details of the headphones can be heard because well, the 6xx has great detail, but soundstage can be very much muddled by the DAC if it's not good at it. I haven't heard it personally (well I still wonder where my headphones are right now) so I can't comment too much on whether or not the DAC is good enough for if it can do better, but yeah, getting just a new amp can also be the way to go.
RayFYeah, I'm not in a huge rush, and as I have bought the XLR cable for my Jotunheim, I also feel like it'll be a waste if I end up trading it in for a Lyr 3, which only has a SE port. The most likely option is either I get the multibit upgrade for $250, or save up for that Yggdrasil XD.
MrBigYes, they sent and email this AM giving me an opportunity to change my order before it ships. Couple of things to mull over; first thing was do I stick with the Jot or jump ship for the Lyr 3? The Lyr is a hybrid Tube amp, the Jot isn't. Second point is an option to upgrade to their new Multibit DAC module (adds another $100 over the Gen 2 Delta/Sigma DAC). Where that got a little confusing was that I don't know if my original order included a Gen 1 module, or if it was the Gen 2 module all along? To make things more interesting, that new $200 Multibit DAC can be added to either the Jot or the Lyr3!
First to be clear, I have no in-depth idea of the actual sound differences between a Delta/Sigma DAC and a the new Multibit DAC. If the extra $100 made a significant difference in hear-able sound quality, I'd be okay with it. My understanding is that it won't at this point, especially with the music files I have now, so I nixed that option and stuck with the Gen 2 Delta/Sigma DAC (adds $100 to the Jot's base price, rather than $200).
Next point was the Jot vs the Lyr3 decision--I decided to stick with the Jotonheim for now. I would also note that when fully pimped with optional tubes, that new Lyr3 ends up well north of seven-hundred smackers! My general feeling about tube amps is: when, and if, I chose to go that route (I can smell the Kool-aid from my house, but so far, haven't drunk any), I'd like go with a more traditional multi-tube amp (if for no other reason than they heat a room better).
So, my final order to the short order cooks at Schiit: one Jot, hold the Multibit, with a side of Gen 2 DAC!
Final cost, as originally ordered: $500. And hopefully, it's shipping today (Damn it!).
RayFhonestly I came at a similar conclusion but different in a way: I game as much as I listen, so for now I'm going solid state. I'm going to get a B-stock JDS Labs Element with custom laser engraving with some star wars script on it and the imperial symbol on the knob. Out the door, about $300 and change.
OakbingYou know what they say: "Keep calm and carry on--and watch out for Snakes!
Something I learned in Drivers Ed: the first guy into the intersection is usually the first guy to get T-boned ;- )
MrBigNo risk there; and no need to end up being the guy with a closet full of incremental audio upgrades. Remember, as the song says:
"Tonight when I chase the dragon
The water may change to cherry wine
And the silver will turn to gold"
Or it may not!
Oakbing@MrBig
I can confirm that with the set up I have (JBLs connected to the headphone out of my iMac), I can faintly hear the sounds my computer makes, through the speakers. The one I hear most often it little whooshing sound my bluetooth mouse makes as I scroll up and down a page. Of course, I don't hear that at all when I'm playing music, but it's a good example of why one would wan't to keep the computer out of the mix, by way of an external DAC.
RayFIf you ordered the Jot within recent times I believe it should be the Gen 2 DAC AK4490 ($150 if separate, $100 if bought with the Jot), from what I've gathered in terms of difference between a Delta Sigma dac and a Multibit dac is that the Multibit is closer to an "analog" sound, where the sounds aren't as sharp and "dry" as that of a Delta Sigma dac. It will be a fuller, richer sound(According to people on the interwebz), it's like smoothing the edges without taking things away from the Delta Sigma.
While that may sound great on paper, in reality a Multibit dac by itself is a lot of work to get it to reach its full potential, at least the case of just adding a Multibit dac in, or, getting a Modi 2 Multibit/ Bifrost Multibit. You need a very clean source if you're going USB, with RCA there may be other issues that arise, overall you will have to spend EXTRA to get the output signal going into your Multibit dac to be perfect before you can appreciate fully what it has to offer. That in my opinion is not something I'm looking forward to, as that's more and more money and gears piled onto this setup chain.
This means that if you just get the Multibit dac and plug it in like you normally would the Delta Sigma, the difference may not be an upgrade, but more of a sidegrade that has a different sound signature, that in my opinion is not worth the extra $100. I would rather just get the Schiit Yggdrasil and not have to worry about all this USB mumble jumble. I get the highest quality Multibit sound Schiit has to offer, and I don't need to end up buying a ton of other gears that just further takes up space.
So for me, if I'm going Multibit, I will get the best it has to offer, if not, just stick with the Delta Sigma and don't worry about Multibit until you have enough capital to get an actually good one.
OakbingGot a second email from Schiit answering that question. The Gen 2 DAC wasn't released until this AM, in order to correspond with the Lyr3 roll out. Mine will ship with the Gen 2. Just between you and me, I suspect this was the hold up in the first place; Schiit didn't wan't a bunch of people complaining about recently shipped units full of the older DAC. I doubt I would have ever know the difference.
I agree with you about not trying to half-ass a Multibit system. Keeping in mind that prior to this morning, most folks were good with a Jotonheim and the prior Gen 1 DAC, as it was. With the Gen 2 installed, I already feel like I'm getting some kind of upgrade, all be it one that evidently, few people have even heard.
News at 11:00!
RayFWould be interested to hear what was different with the Gen 2 DAC, but sadly I don't think I'd shell out $150 for the upgrade, especially if it's not a significant improvement. I'm assuming they tamed a bit of the glare on the highs that a lot of people seems to hear from the Gen1, which would be good, but also a bad thing for the 6XX since the synergy with the Jot was because of that glare, though it should still benefit from the Jot's clarity and punchy nature.
But yeah, if going Multibit at least get a Gumby, or just straight up a Yggy, which will cost an arm but hey at least you still got the leg!
jkittlesenMine's on the way to the post office... hopefully they make the 40 minute drive by end of today lol... I mean they've already taken 9 hours but who knows, it might just be a turtle making the delivery.
OakbingThere are 3275 requests for Sennheiser HD 6XX headphones. When will they start ordering the headphones this time?
How much was it for the last time?
alex5908I think they come out in batches of 1000 to 2000 headphones per drop, the latest one was in early March I believe, so maybe there will be a drop sometime in April or May. You'll want to keep your eyes peeled as they seem to go quite fast.
OakbingI found an offer of an open box for $249 delivered to my place in Canada. Do you think I should go for it? Everything is included and as it's open box there won't be taxes, I believe.
alex5908You can if you don't want to wait, it's about $37 more if no tax or shipping fee extra. I don't live in Canada so can't help you in regards to customs and taxes... D: But yeah, I'd say anything under $250 should be ok.
jkittlesenHahahaha get ready for the time when FEDEX was used to deliver a charging cord for my phone, and didn't make it for 3 whole days. I went through that weekend with no phone to use, but hey, I'm only missing those calls for the million dollar deals that I was about to make, no big deal~
RayFMine finally arrived! ... but I can't listen to them yet because well... let's finish the things on hand before putting them on my ears and become unproductive XD.
OakbingSounds a little like "To Have and To Have Not"--Hemingway must have had you and your 6XXs in mind when he wrote that book?
Well congratulations anyway, you're nearly home free. Mine on the other hand are still enjoying the Arizona sun, somewhere in downtown Phoenix!
RayFYeah, I couldn't resist so I sneaked a short listen in on the SE port from the Jot, so far the verdict is that it's no unicorn and rainbows coming from a CA Andromeda, but it's got a wider soundstage and arguably a better separation due to the soundstage than my Andromeda+Jot. I did not listen for too long and was frankly a little preoccupied trying not to get caught at the workplace, so more thoughts later in... 2 hours when I can finally sit down and listen without minding my surroundings xD. The live video you posted below sounds a lot wider that's for sure though.
MlcousiGracias, mi amigo--appreciate you taking a moment to look and check in. I see we have some speakers in common and maybe some 6XXs. Mine are still MIA at this point but they'll be here in the near future (or so I'm told). Gonna be out of town for a while but I'll check in when I get back--don't be a stranger!
jkittlesenI use the shp9500's at work, for what they are they are awesome.. I got them for 50 bucks on Newegg a few months ago.. I would say the sound similar to me, I prefer the clamp and comfort of the hd6xx though..
jkittlesenSo the question begs to be asked , is there $150 or 300 difference in a Philips 9500 vs Senn 650 ?
My answer is no, but I enjoyed the quest for finding out myself.
I do not think my hearing is able to tell the difference between tube amps vs solid state, Sennheiser 650 or Philips SHP9500 headphones.
I am going to just sit back now and enjoy the music, after all that is the ultimate goal!
jkittlesenA lot of the differences between the 650's and other headphones is in the small details. It took me a few days to get the "wow" factor for the HD6XX. Listening to binaural FLAC files of a symphony orchestra gave me the "wow" factor I had been missing. The timbre, color, weight and edges of brass notes are way closer to the real thing than other headphones I've owned. Strings and vocals are more accurate and have a much fuller tone than similar V-shaped headphones. The HD6XX's like any other headphones are a tool, when used for the right job they can produce fantastic results. I totally concur that for some genres they don't shine especially bright and that other headphones would be a better fit (edm / rap / gaming / YouTube). I definitely think for vocals, strings, brass and just classical music in general, the HD650/6XX are excellent.
RayFyou ordered your when ? on November ? i am getting it by a 3rd party i am paying a heck lot ! and on top of the 3 months wait i have to wait a additional 1 month to get it.
RayFNot funny. Guess your jokes are as good as your ability to admit failure after getting hunted by facts. But hey you can attack people by saying 'Muh Penis Muh needs killed need mutilated' instead of refuting others who prove you wrong because you cannot.
DeathbedNot in any official capacity, but if someone were to send me ticket, I'd be happy to put a set in my luggage and meet you in KL for a drink at the Sky Bar ;- )
RayFGlad you finally got yours! I got mine last April, which started me along the old Hi-Res path (for better or more expensive). I love the sound of the 6XX, as long as you give them enough power. I hope you've had a chance to audition them after all the delays due to Somali Audiophile Pirates.
jaxtraumaAbsolutely, also picked up the 4XXs at some point along the way and enjoy them as well (occasionally more).
Reading back over this thread, I can't believe how long we all waited for them--now I understand they ship same-day--with no pirate interference!
Kids these days don't know how good they've got ;- )
RayFMan that's weird, maybe not. I have the 4XX as well. I can't decide between them when deciding what to listen to. They both have unique characteristics, possibly being the reason discerning people, like us ;-) choose to peruse the Drop articles and fora educating themselves and making informed purchases (deep breath). Bottom line: I like 'em both
jaxtraumaI'm with you on that--I'm not willing to part with either pair at this point (nor am I looking for more).
I'm pretty happy with the setup I have for the environment I'm in now. I also have a set of powered, JBL monitors from MD and between the headphones and the speakers, I'm okay for now.
RayFI saw those on your profile, I love that they're balanced all the way through. I love my Audioengine HD6 which goes along with HD-6XX for pairs, eventually I want to upgrade to better speakers, tube amp(s), electrostatic headphones, get a new turntable for hundreds of albums gathering dust and finally, some cables made from only the finest 6-nines Unobtanium™ alloy, molecularly assembled in an Alternate Universe™ reality-distortion tesseract field , using a secret geometry reverse-engineered from crashed UFOs, painstakingly smuggled out of Area 51 by deep-cover operatives. Performance is further enhanced by the use of a QuantConnect™ quantum-entangled pair of transmission interfaces, held at absolute zero by the exclusive Stasis Field™ technology. The cables are then wrapped in NanoAeroCap™, a nanotechnology-enabled aerogel anti-capacitance insulation system, featuring Fractal Interleaved Geometry™ to create negative inductance for maximum audio transmission quality; then I'll be all set. Thanks to Schiit Audio for the spelling ;-)
jaxtraumaOMG, can't believe you missed all that stuff last week? MD was offering a package deal!
Oh well, maybe next month--MD is nothing if not repetitive ;- )
pradeep-s
A true blast from the past; I think this was my first MD purchase. Funny though, seldom a week goes by where I don't get a notification from this thread. That bit about the Somali Pirates is my second most endorsed comment. It was humorous at the time because MD didn't stock them back then--you actually had to wait for X number of guys to commit before you knew your order would count--and then you had to wait forever for delivery. We were all on pins and needles back then. Now I guess they ship them next day. Times have changed!
RayFI remember the Pirates, they never seem to be in stock when you need em, and then there when you don’t...
Taken out of context, it’s still funny;)
“That bit about the Somali Pirates is my second most endorsed comment. I was humorous at the time because MD didn't stock them back then”
rastus
See? I knew you would understand. We would be literally lost without gps :-)
thanks for the link!
wow quantum accelerator, talk about next level
Once each batch arrives it will go through quality control checks, and will then be prepared for shipment. We will be shipping out the batches based on when members joined the drop. We’re excited to announce that the first batch of headphones has arrived and is now being prepared for shipment! This batch is roughly 2,000 headphones and we’ve sent an email to those who are in this initial fulfillment. The next batch is already on the way and is expected to arrive at our warehouse by the end of next week. I’ll provide an update next week with the current fulfillment status. We are on track to have all units ship by our estimated ship date of March 28.
