Product Description
After the chef’s knife, the paring knife is arguably the most important in any good chef’s rotation. Short, nimble, and easy to control, it allows you to do anything from cutting fine herbs and peeling fruits and veggies to trimming meat and removing stems and cores Read More
We're not big fans of highly polished, pseudo-damascene knives emitted by automated machinery, but when this drop released we'd just moved cross country and believed that our entire collection of kitchen knives had gone astray - so we ordered the Petty/Pairing combo as an inexpensive way to begin rebuilding.
Mercifully, the shippers found & delivered our box, and as the months passed we forgot about this drop, until both knives appeared suddenly. This is our major gripe, the blessed drop took <forever> to complete - sure, we'd expected issues with 3rd party drops, but had foolishly believed that Massdrop would have been more timely...

The knives are really quite pretty, the handles are well shaped in a modified 'D,' nicely balance the Petty's blade, and give a better grip than their semi-gloss finish implies. The Pairing knife feels slightly butt-heavy, but this is OK for a short blade, where you'll be working up close and personal with sticky fruit and the extra grip gives better control.
Both blades are quite thin, very light, and surprisingly rigid considering how thin they are. Their edges are very straight, the bevels are fairly shallow at 15-18 degrees, and they appeared to have been given a final finish prior to being boxed.
The Petty has fought its way onto our counter top knife block - its lightness, good balance, and agile handling make it very useful for trimming and prepping meat, and it has just enough rocker to take on small chopping tasks that a Nakiri could be clumsy for.
Yes, we like both of these knives, they look and perform far above their cost, and have found a useful place in our kitchen.
I have been looking for a petty/utility knife for some time, and I'm glad I took the jump with this. Blade is very sharp and comfortable to grip. Steel seems great and I have no worries that it will hold up (and if it doesn't they have an amazing warranty). Now I just wish there was some kind of Chefs knife/Paring knife combo so I could complete my set! I would love to display all 3 in my kitchen.
This is such a great petty for the price. The handle has a good weight to it, and the blade stays pretty sharp even from a good amount of usage per week. I use it to peel veggies mainly, but it is a pretty versatile knife.
Not only looking good and also sharp. But because I don't use daily I can't confirm for the duration of it. I do recommend because it wasn't expensive and it does look good for display if you use like me use for models and few times for chopped things.
The Knife stays sharp quite well and is easy to clean, but there are some small imperfections such as the blade not being centered and the pattern not being great looking up close.
this small paring knife quickly became my goto knife in the kitchen when I need to slice garlic or prep other produces and fruits. I also have the slightly larger one but I don't use it as often.
