Hi everyone,
It has come to our attention that a few drop participants are experiencing a hum in one or both channels of the Massdrop x Eddie Current ZDT Jr. We wanted to let you know we are aware of this issue and are looking into possible solves for it.
If you are experiencing this issue with your unit, please reach out to our Community Support team for further assistance via your transactions page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions. They will be happy to assist you in either a return and full refund or in repairing your amp as soon as we determine the cause of the issue.
We apologize for the inconvenience and are working with the manufacturer to resolve this as quickly as possible, so you can enjoy your amp as intended.
massvxxWe just got some material in and are sending some shielding to a couple of people helping to test a fix...maybe next week we will determine root cause and have a fix. Thank you for hanging in there!
massvxxHi massvxx,
Yes, we have had meetings this week and are gathering information about possible avenues as well as a mix of options to support the amps and community.
Along with help from some other enthusiasts who love the amp enough to do whatever is needed to keep them, we have a pretty good understanding of the differences between amps that hum and do not...there are a couple different ways to work on this so we are trying to ensure we follow the best path for each case.
There is some interference being caused and you can reduce/remove this by moving things around or shielding them. The good news is that we do understand the situation better and now we have the homework of setting up the best plans to help…totally thank you for your patience, in the end we want you to have the best amps!
CEE_TEE+1 to Luge's comment. It has been now months without an official solution being implemented by Massdrop. End users really should not need to add their own steel shielding and drill holes and extending wires to move the transformer to where it should have been installed to begin with (though the discussions and measurements from those who did are quite interesting) so for those of us without the time to do such corrections it would be nice if Massdrop would actually execute one of the solutions officially or at least communicate specifics of the plan to do so.
(Considering the fact that nearly 2.5 months of 1 year warranty on these has counted down (and any plan would presumably take weeks even if it were annouced immediately) but the units havent been fixed yet, I should hope Massdrop would also extend the warranty from the date they are corrected.)
CEE_TEEhope you'll do another drop in the future, once the problems are resolved...a very popular drop it seems.
any chances of a balanced edition coming out, too? hope the issues do get resolved.
_zegnaIt would be nice if they first resolved the problems for the in market units (it would be quite irritating to existing customers if Massdrop announced another drop with correct units before fixing their units' problem), rather than repeatedly promising an update every time (the right) people start complaining nothing is being done just to quiet the bad publicity (and then evidently, not announce anything...). I would guess fixing the problem for future units by adding steel shielding and installing the power transformer in the correct location in the enclosure would be easy at the factory.
npc2Hi npc2 and zegna,
We have been working on a fix for the in-market units and ran into a snag so we're testing another path now...we'll take care of the first purchasers before any more units will be available.
Hoping to have news soon. We have materials to be able to fix the units and are working on the smoothest path possible. Thank you all, I know this has taken a long while and we're pushing to resolve this!
CEE_TEEcan't wait to stop using my darkvoice as a pre-amp to get hum free volume- thanks for the update. any official communications going out to existing owners? or just stay tuned on this thread? also, when i submitted a support request for this amp no mention was made that you were working on a fix?
karnacopiaHi karnacopia,
There will be communication to each owner via email as well as a post here in discussion. We have been in touch with customer service and they should know there is a fix coming. Thank you for your questions!
