I own a pair of the original matrix after watching a Tyll review, they sounded mediocre but when I did the pad swap with Brainwav HM5 velours they sounded phenomenal. These are semi closed but the originals only had 8 hours of playback and they were 64 ohm so they didn't get that loud. If you mod them they hit an audiophile quality, without the mod, I wouldn't recommend them (these pads do look thicker though). $60 might be worth it
