Not sure Amazon offers a 30-day return but if so why not buy the GL2 and the others that look like the GL2 to audition? After you're done, you can say which one is the real deal and return the others.

No_username_availableI have 3 different headphone models using this technology. None of them sound the same. They are all tuned differently. With 4 drivers, 2 crossovers, and 2 transformers there is apprently a fairly broad range of voicing possible. Just because the tech is similar doesn't mean the sound is.
Look at the Sennheiser HD600,650,and 660. All same dynamic driver tech, but different sonic signatures. Looking at the video, it is very hard to tell the drivers apart. The rest of the headphone's parts are interchangeable. Yet reviewers and owners say the 3 models all sound different.

PhoneheadfanTrue, but if you look at Tyll's video the drivers look very, very similar. Many would have trouble telling them apart from the HD600/650. They are the same technology - dynamic. That was my whole point. Just because different headphones use the same technology, perhaps even from the same supplier, it doesn't mean they sound the same. M&J uses at least 2 different dynamic drivers in their headphone models. Think of all the dynamic speaker manufacturers. Many use the same drivers provided by other companies. They don't sound the same.

BarondlaYes but Sennheiser is a real company with real engineers who makes real stuff. So far as I can tell M&J is one guy (Marshall is apparently gone) who has never claimed to have an electronics/engineering background. Every product they have released looks and specs EXACTLY like an already existing Verisonix model. I have no real problem with that. I just see no reason to insist that the M&J magic touch makes them better just cause they cost 2-3 times as much.
I owned the Bauer & Tates (identical to this drop so far as I can tell.) I thought they sounded find and were quite comfortable. The headband and plastic parts seem a bit cheap. A very nice phone for $80 (or $70 for the Cyberwhatever version).

GrochMitchell & Johnson are a real company. They aren't the size of Sennheiser. They may have stuff modified(tuned) or built for them. Lots of companies do. Apparently neither man is an engineer. So what? Neither was Saul Marantz. Neither was Mark Levinson.
M&J has other products besides headphones. They just introduced a new top of the line preamp and amp. https://www.whathifi.com/news/mitchell-johnson-uncover-flagship-800-series-amplifiers-bristol-show.
Don't know if specs would describe all the differences or not. What spec tells which headphone has the largest soundstage? The most focus? It gets complicated fast.

BarondlaEdwin,
In my post I'm referring to the other brands mentionend in the comments selling headphones with the same technology, looking identical to the GL2 but for a fraction of the cost. They cost less, look the same but do they sound like the GL2? How they sound is the important factor. Cheap but poor audio representation is a waste of money.

No_username_availableI was agreeing with you. Just because they use same tech doesn't mean they sound the same.

No_username_availableI actually did this with the Tate & Bauer version of the GL2. I didn't like them when I first got them. Found them to be very tinny sounding. But after I changed the pads out with Brainwavz, they sound really amazing. I don't know the exact reason why they sound so good after the pad change, but I find myself reaching for these over any other headphones that I own (HD6XX, K7XX, HE560, HE400i, M100, HM5, LCD2, M1060, MDR-1A) I mainly listen to indie folk, and the acoustics and vocals just sound incredibly clean and sublime. For the $100 that I paid (the headphones were $80 and the pads around $20), they're an absolute steal.

No_username_availableYour description of the T&B makes me believe there are major differences in tonal balance between the two headphones. The GL2 would never be described as tinny. They are warmer than my HD600 and Grado SR60. Not overly warm, just pleasant.

BarondlaI do not have the T & B, Rorset has. I had the GL2 Kickstarter edition and have upgraded to the MJ2. Pleased as punch. Also happy with my upgrade Flare Audio R2Pro to Flare Audio Flares Pro.

BarondlaNot upgrading to the FAG. It's the same as the Pro but than gold plated. I don't think they will sound any better then the Pro only because they're gold plated. For that kind of money there are better IEM to be had. They also have the Jet 1 and Jet 2. Must be new, just as the FAG.

BarondlaYes, that is certainly possible. All I know is that the GL2s with the Brainwavz have quickly become my favorite headphones, and considering I have headphones that I paid around 8 times what these cost that's quite telling, I think. Acoustics and vocals just sound right, there's a certain "speed" that I don't find in other headphones. They're not super light in the hand, but they feel like almost nothing on my head. I actually fell asleep a few times with these on. And they sound great out of my iPhone or Magni 3 :D

RorsetHello, are the earpads easily replaceable or it involves some tinkering? I am thinking to use my spare Elex earpads on the GL2Thanks !
