Black sold out, bummer...
FormerlyI think it was offered only in red this time (there is no black "Sold out" option in "Join drop" form). However, the band is the easiest thing to replace on a watch with anything, ranging from black leather, to milanese, to NATO for a few bucks. These look especially good on red-dark blue NATOs. Mondaine Big Date - the standard quartz version - came with that, sadly it died after first battery change.
Still better offer than the previous one with black dial and white hands (totally wrong scheme for the swiss railway watch). And I finally managed to get one of these instead of those MD emails leading directly to "drop ended" pages!
PS: If any of you are in US, Gemnation might be a faster choice for the same price right now. However, internationally, MD ships for 70 USD less!

UsernameWasTakenYep, according to the review the band is pretty ordinary anyway. Plenty of band choices out there.

Delivered last Friday, I imminently noticed that the Watch is NOT the one in the pictures, NO Stitched Band, the face used in the Watch is from the Classic line of Mondaine and NOT from the Stop2Go line, the SWISS MADE is under the 6 o'clock minute mark like in the Classic and NOT on each side of the 6 o'clock minute mark midway above the smaller minute marks, the separation of the hour and minute hands is noticeably wider, maybe to allow for the lume to properly illuminate the face? keeping good time so far.
hectorgullInteresting. The non-stitched band can be chalked up to Massdrop using/Mondaine providing incorrect photo, it looks like the band is colored red in software. They even have the same photo on their own page! https://www.mondaine.com/watches/official-swiss-railways-watch/stop2go/mst-4101b-lc.html
However, the situation with watch face is stranger than that. For example, SBB (Swiss railway from whom Mondaine has licensed the design) and some other sites have the watch pictured with the correct non-stiched band: https://www.sbb-shop.ch/en/mondaine-watches/stop2go-new/watch-stop2go-41-mm-backlight/ , but the face is still the same.
It is hard to find real-life pictures of BackLight version, all stores and Mondaine site use these stock photos, apparently in two versions with stitched and non-stiched band, but they all seem to be made in software using previous photos of non-backlight Stop2Go (watch face is pixel perfect identical - you would never position two physical watches in the exact same position to photograph it). All unboxing videos on youtube, reviews, etc. only have the non-backlight version. Promotional video from Mondaine also uses the previous stock photo with SWISS MADE above and some CGI added: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttpPrSl_hr0 (it is the first one in video, not in the preview).

I found this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/8xs332/mondaine_stop2go_backlight_ive_wanted_one_of/ where the watch face indeed has the text under the 6 o'clock. There is also a lume shot in first post there.
Either there are frankenwatches rolling around, or they really changed the face for Stop2Go BackLight from classic Stop2Go and forgot to tell their (Mondaine's, the watchmaker's, not Massdrop's! pretty bad) graphic makers to make a new photograph. This seems more likely given they mess up the band photos, still, I'm pretty nervous waiting for my watch sitting at the customs at the moment.

UsernameWasTakenAfter navigating the internet for a while, You are correct UsernameWasTaken, the Stop2Go BackLight has indeed a "new face" after the Classic line, making the watch closer to the railway clock by not invading the watch face with more markings, still kipping time perfectly since Friday, Thanks UWT for pointing to the pictures issues.

I received mine ten days ago. Here are my impressions of the watch.
I've owned many watches over the years, in all price ranges (still have way too many in my collection). The dial on this is one of my favorites. As has been mentioned, the style is unique, and in my opinion very easy to read.
I also like the red strap, which is probably the most comfortable leather (supposedly) strap I've ever tried. It's very smooth and doesn't bind or slide around. However, it's a bit short compared to other straps. I have large (7.75-8 inches) wrists, and have to use the last hole, which makes slipping the loops on the end difficult. The strap should be a bit longer. Nevertheless, I really like it. But if you have a wrist larger than 8 inches, you're going to have to replace the strap.
The stop and jump feature at twelve o'clock is really cool, and for some reason fascinates me.
The luminescence is, indeed, backlighted, and my own specimen stayed illuminated, albeit somewhat dimly at the end, for over eight hours. Of course, that assumes your eyes have adjusted to darkness.
Here's what I'm not too crazy about.
According to atomic time, it's lost a bit over one second in ten days. Which isn't bad, but on the other hand you can buy a ten dollar quartz watch that will match that. I normally would not pay $230 for a quartz watch, but as mentioned...I really like the dial. The only quartz watches I've paid this much, and more, for are Bulova Precisionist movements, which are accurate to within 15-20 seconds/year (confirmed via my own watches). Perhaps I'm being picky; it may be too early to judge, since the movement may still be "breaking in", but I expected a bit more accuracy.
The case is too thick, in my opinion. There's no reason for a quartz watch to be this thick, even for a supposedly railroad watch style.
Watches that are water resistant to a depth of less than 50 meters make me nervous...even dress watches, which of course this watch is not. In any event, I would have much preferred this watch to have a 50 meter water resistance rating.
Even though I like the strap, based on its condition after wearing it for ten days, I don't think it's going to last very long.
Anyway, I'm glad I bought the watch...the dial is gorgeous, and as long as it doesn't become less accurate, I'm going to keep it.
cgalnyAd case thickness: In my understanding, it is due to the battery. According to http://calibercorner.com/mondaine-caliber-58-02/ , it uses CR2032 (and this is because it has smooth seconds hand and two motors), which is a big-a** battery being 20 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick itself, hence "2032". So it is placed behind the movement, not inside it as in other quartz watches.

maybe i'm a sucker, but i opted in for this drop, AND the big-date black version last month, really like the look of these watches and especially think this steel case will make for lots of real cool strap and bracelet pairings!
not sure how much wrist time they'll see over my Seiko's, but that's why getting quartz at this price makes sense for me.
cheers, happy time-telling all!

Is the second hand in this tick once every second or a few times every second for a smoother second hand sweep movement?

Thanks. Do you know what is the lug fo lug size? Will it look too big on a 6.75" wrist? Edit: just found out the lug to lug width is 47mm

Got mine today. I got a little worried when I opened it, as the box it comes in says "Helvetica1" in big red letters on it. Did everyone else get it in that same box?

DeckoGot mine too today. Great job Massdrop for the fast shipping. I received the same box. I thought there is no paperwork until I noticed the little piece of clothes which can be pull open.
4 days ago: "We expect your order to ship by Wed Aug 22 2018" Today (Aug 2): "Your package has shipped!"
Not bad, Massdrop, not bad :)

I am once again struggling to figure out where the Massdrop savings are. I recently purchased the exact same watch from Jomashop for $199.99. It's out of stock now but I'm sure they'll have it again soon. Gemnation also sells it (for the same price as this drop, I believe). Perhaps I'm naive in thinking that Massdrop should be able to beat the best retail price by at least 10%. C'est la vie.
P.S. Lovely watch, BTW. You're going to get asked about it a lot and everyone will ooh and aah when you show and explain the unique movement.

gklingerGemnation does have the stop2go backlight (MST.4101B.LB) listed for $229, but it's OOS... Does it regularly have them in-stock?
