Consider this a coupon for $60--OFF on this drop: See here--unless you've got a major thing for demonstrators, let me hip you to a couple of pen-facts. First, as I'm sure I've mentioned elsewhere on this site, demonstrators are actually a bit of a rip-off. That's because a big chunk of what one would normally pay for in a good pen is wrapped up in the materials the barrel and cap are made of--be that precious resin or enameled metals, or a hundred other materials that are even more expensive. Beyond those material costs, there's the labor involved in turning that raw stuff into something desirable (that usually involves a lot of lathe and polishing work). However, with a clear plastic pen (yup, it's just plastic) the material is much less expensive and so is the labor involved. Add to that, the fact that most clear demonstrators appear on the market only after their original, opaque cousins have been available for ages--meaning all the tool and die costs have long been recouped--and you get a pen that costs significantly less dinero to produce. So, you might ask, with cheaper materials, and cheeper manufacturing costs, why do demonstrators often sell for premium prices? That question can be answered with one word: "Porsches!" Yes it's true--there are greedy little people in this world who want to take all your hard earned money so they can buy nice cars--or homes--or vacations or (fill in the blank). I have noting against those things--I just don't want to buy them for folks I've never met. But what if you really, really want to see a plunger fill mechanism sucking up all the pretty colors of really, really expensive ink you already shelled out for (before I could stop you on each of those drops too)? Well you're in luck! You can get all of those features in an arguably nicer pen for around thirty-bucks, depending on where you find them. Of course, I'm speaking of a TWSBI, a pen that for the most part, only comes in demonstrator versions. They fill via a plunger, and their steel nibs are actually quite decent to write with. I travel with a TWISB Echo, (and I travel to and through some rather rough and tumble places) and that pen (one of their least expensive models) preforms just as well as my better pens--which never leave the house. But if I ever did lose my traveling TWISB (through carelessness or misadventure), I wouldn't be out a C-Note--would I? So, there you have it--do a search for: "TWSBI Echo" and spend the other hundred this pen was going to cost you on an expensive bottle of wine or whisky--or anything else that gets your creative writing juices flowing. Alternatively, you can mail the money you just saved to me--I like Porsches as much as the next guy--or not, the choice is yours, but definitely don't spend too much money on a clear, plastic pen.

PS: This is a TWSBI ^

I joined this drop several months ago @ $129.99 so the reduced $99 is a good deal. I'm a sucker for demonstrators and have been using the pen with no issues. With most inks I've tried, I haven't experienced any staining or discoloration. However, I recently saw this at Endless Pens for $72 on pre-order (sorry, no EF option). (https://endlesspens.com/collections/pre-order/products/pelikan-classic-m205-demonstrator-fountain-pen-pre-order) It retails for $80 but with the preorder code, the price is further discounted by 10% and free shipping since the order is > $50. I'm not affiliated with Endless Pens and I have never ordered from them, so I have no experience with the company's customer service but... their deal does seem better.

Perhaps I'm thinking wrong, but I've become spoiled with my gold nibs and can't see as where this pen is worth $100+ with a SS nib. I think a Pilot 92 for similar price and a rhodium plated 14K gold nib would be a better purchase and yield a much better writing experience in return. I'll grant that the Pelikan is a little better looking pen (and I positively love my white Pelikan M605), but I'm willing to sacrifice a little aesthetics for a smoother writing experience. Please correct me if I'm mistaken...my experiences with Pilot/Namiki are limited to my Decimo VP and with Pelikan my M605.

CH92 is a solid choice, yet I would also suggest to check out some Franklin-Christoph pens. I only bought nib units from them, but they all were magnificent.

One should not rule out a nib just because it's stainless--sometimes those perform better and hold up longer over many years. Many of my favorite writers are SS nibs. And if I lose the pen or damage it, it's not as expensive to replace. However, I have to admit that all of my top 3 writing pens have gold nibs--but those pens are all in a much pricier category than this. Whether or not you favor steel or gold, or demonstrator or not, it all boils down to preference.

I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MODEL OF THE 205. The 205 is a great pen. The demonstrator is made of awful, awful plastic. Mine is very gently used and showing tons of scuffs and scratches just from its own cap It's also IMMENSELY prone to staining. Even pelikan 4001 blue ink seems to stain it. The M205 is a wonderful pen, the steel nib is as soft as many gold nibs. It posts crazy deep and just falls to hand brilliantly. But I badly wish I'd gotten a solid color model.

HoneybadgersI have to agree with you. Mine didn't stain or get tons of scratches, but the pen did look A LOT LESS impressive than it's other-colored siblings. My friend took a look at this pen with the Cafe creme version of M205 side-by-side once and thought the clear version was a knockoff... The M200/205 are amazing pens, but get a different color (preferably one with a less transparent color, those ones definitely look more expensive than the transparent ones).

Is this not basically a TWSBI Al-Mini but for more money?

Seg_FaultExcept it doesn't have structural issues like TWSBI does.

I did not see this drop end or that there was a limited number available in the description. The old Mass Drop site seemed better. The new look of the site is not useful and I end up missing things like this. This is why I started buying cool/neat items elsewhere.

Good to know do you have the link? If this drop doesn't ship on time (next Wednesday) I may buy there...

So (mass)drop closed the writing community, and pens now go to everyday carry ? Or was this a pre-arranged bargain with the provider and you guys "had to" include this last(?) pen drop ?
ardaI plan to feature some pens in EDC moving forward.

I love demonstrator pens, this m205 is pretty nice. feels good in the hand ;-) However I got this pen for $84 shipped from EndlessPens, I wouldn't pay more than that for it. Good ink flow and piston feels solid, but it's just a demonstrator pen, nothing too special about it.
