So I get the " Still interested in the Rivals of Ixalan Full Set Preorder?" email and think, Sweet! Massdrop has fixed this listing... Nope... So why send me a followup email to a drop I am not able to access... /sigh... Rant over.
MTGO is the online card game. (Magic the Gathering Online). Wizards of the Coast has an online redemption feature where if you own 1 of each card in a set (only participating sets), you can pay a fee to redeem these cards for their physical card. You pay like $25 or something to redeem them. It removes it from your online inventory, and you get a box of freshly minted cards. The trick is getting all the cards in your inventory, so there are lots of services out there that you can buy a full set of digital cards specifically for redemption.
Look up goatbot (not sure about the rules for pasting links on here). You buy your sets from here and have it transferred to your MTGO account.
If you look up mtgo redemption on the MTG website, it has the dates the redemption is valid (it's kind of short.. like 3 months).
Full disclaimer... I have a friend do the actual legwork for me (I dont ever use my mtgo account) but I do know how the process works.
From my experience, a full digital set is anywhere from $50 to 100 (depending on the popularity and overall value of the set), plus the $25 redemption... I have yet to pay more than $100 for a set, but I have only done it since maybe.... Shadows over Innistrad?
It's slow and a little clunky, but I can wait a few weeks after the set release to save a hundred or more on a full set.
You can get as many sets as you want, and you can even redeem foil sets (you must own 1 x each foil MTGO card).
I think the $25 fee applies per redemption, so you couldn't redeem 50 sets for one $25 fee... foil sets may be more to redeem.
Hope this helps!
