I'll echo NeoCrisis - the Rode VideoMicro is newer, smaller, better sound quality, cheaper, and includes a deadcat. It's basically Rode's successor to this product. It lacks an acoustic foam cover, but that's cheaper to buy than a deadcat.
lastzeroWell, I would consider the Average Joe to be 'entry level'. It might be ok, just not for me. On board power source, stereo, and some filtering would be nice. Although these features require more attention to detail (checking the battery before each shoot, testing audio levels, etc.) : i.e.> not the average Joe
The reason this is more expensive and worth it is because Rode does not authorize "Fulfilled By Amazon" If you get it through massdrop its coming from rode and therefor an authorized US dealer which will recognize your warranty.
Can someone explain why this is so expensive? I am in the market for this or a similar mic but this is loads cheaper on amazon even with the windshield....
