I'm guessing most people grabbed the Blue ones that reduce noise the most? Thinking of grabbing these. You are able to hear friends next to you right?

NikeluDepends on what you need. The descriptions make a little bit of sense but after owning a pair you may understand better. Blues are best for ultimate protection, though I'm not sure if the fit is great for sport-like activities. I have a pair of SureFire EP4 Plus (http://www.amazon.com/SureFire-Defenders-filtered-Earplugs-reusable/dp/B004DH65OG?ie=UTF8&keywords=ep4&qid=1463767937&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) that are great for shooting and swimming and such, and the removable plug brings the db reduction from 24 down to 12 so they double up as medium protection. However they aren't the greatest at sitting completely within my ear or at slight reduction so I'm getting the purple pair of these to sleep/work in when I have a headache or my co-workers are being annoying, etc. I love my etymotic plugs but the stems are just a bit too long, so I'm hoping these are a little smaller. What you need just depends on your application.
