Great sound, great soundstage, limited surround effect
This is an excellent soundbar system. Movies, music, and games all sound fantastic. The sub gives a tangible rumble through the room and miraculously hasn't disturbed my downstairs neighbor. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the surround effect is a little disappointing, but the soundstage is quite large so you still get a solid sense of positioning in front of you. If you live in a place where space is at a premium (Bay area 🙃) or mounting speakers isn't ideal, this is a really great setup.
Huge improvement over the 2.1 Samsung soundbar it replaced. Excellent sound and a large soundstage that fills the room. It comes in a Sony box that was left on the porch by FedEx, glad no porch thieves saw it.
Great deal for this soundbar! The HDMI CEC works great with my LG TV and Nvidia Shield TV. The Bluetooth transmitter and receiver option is fantastic and I'm not aware of many sound systems that can do this. I'm not an audiophile so the Atmos effect is difficult to discern so don't expect "real" 3D effect with these this speaker. The powered sub is pretty nice coming from a passive sub on my old system.
One heck of a soundbar.
The ceiling in my living room is 18ft high, and yet it has no problem filling it with clear, crisp sound.
Setup takes a few minutes and is pretty straight forward.
It has several presets ("Sound fields") ; Standard, ClearAudio+, 3D-surround, Movies, Sports, Music.
While I use the 3D-sound setting for blockbusters (and its more than adequate), I prefer ClearAudio+ for most everything else.
This system shines best with a high quality source. Don't expect it to magically transform your 128kb/s mp3s.
The firmware offers lots of connectivity, but there's certainly room for improvement. That said, Sony designed it to be as invisible as possible; once you configure it to your needs you should not have to see the interface again.
The subwoofer is quite powerful, and bass is mostly tight but I've heard better. Thankfully the remote has separate relative volume control for the subwoofer so you can adjust it on the fly.
All in all, you can't really expect more from a single box+woofer.
Yeah, the HDMI ARC port is what I am using. I just got it yesterday and haven't had a ton of time to look at the settings following the update so maybe something is in there. Fingers crossed! I specifically got this because of the Vision passthrough.
