I'm having trouble wrapping my head around people complaining about not getting an upgrade or about getting an upgrade they didn't want. We all knew what we were getting into when we signed up for the drop, a 50% chance of not getting upgraded, and a whatever percent chance of the various upgrades. Why are you acting so outraged now?
Faulknarri agree its a gamble as well, but i do find it interesting that some people got both bonuses an upgraded knife and additional knife while other people didn't get anything. They could of increased everyone's odds by giving only one bonus per order??
FaulknarrYeah I can agree with that. Seeing the people who got upgrades and bonus items gives me quite the pang of jealousy as I clutch my plain black dragonfly2.
Ricky8Start a poll for other possible manufactures.
Other interesting canidates would be:
Cold Steel (eg. Lawman)
Böker (eg. Kwaiken)
Benchmade (Griptillian)
Greetings
ive been wanting one of these guys for a while and i always love a good blue box. i just cant agree with the H1 salt being an
"upgrade". i mean it is if youre working on a fishing boat and live the salty life. but for 99% of every other user here it doesn't really help. i for one wouldnt carry the salt if i got it from this drop. also its a 30% chance of getting the salt... thats 1 in 3 thats way too high. i cant take those odds on a knife i wouldnt carry so with much regret ill pass.
DocZZZH1 is a good steel. But it's a strange steel that's better with a serrated edge. And hawkbill blades are surprisingly useful. So I can see where they would consider it an upgrade. But I do agree that it's not for everyone, myself included. I'll give this blue box a shot anyway. If I get the hawkbill salt model, it's an opportunity to try something different than what I'd normally buy.
FrozenspyderBasically my reasoning as well. I'd never intentionally purchase a serrated knife in H1, but if I happen to get one here, where it is somewhat randomised, that's fine. Let's face it, most of us here have so many knives that 90% of them exist for the novelty of having them, so why not add a serrated hawkbill made of ceramic pretending to be steel.
I'm definitely not complaining, since I got an upgrade on that drop. Glad everyone else got the credit, it was definitely a strange occurrence, especially with how long it took MD to respond. I'm assuming they were just trying to work out the logistics before saying anything, and didn't update the item description to keep people from complaining about a bait and switch.
JakeSizzleDid they notify people right away what they got, or did people have to wait for the shipment to go out?
I didn't get charged extra for anything, so..
NTexRobI ordered 2 and got 2 salt one serrated and one not. Didn't really want either and would of been happier with the regular dragonflies. Oh well that's what I get for taking chances
I've been thinking about picking up a dragonfly so this piqued my interest. Unfortunately I just realized I consider most of the dragonfly variants a downgrade over the base (except the zdp). Good luck to those who go for it.
I think a lot of people are hesitant to participate in this drop for the same reasons. The base model is the same price as other retailers, the salt hawkbill is a very specialized upgrade (or downgrade, depending on your viewpoint), the stainless model is pretty, but heavy (again pro or con depending on your view) and pinned together, the zdp is great, and the foliage green is a slight upgrade for some people due to being g10 instead of frn. But there really aren't a lot of dragonfly variants so I guess this is what massdrop has to work with for an inexpensive spyderco. Not really their fault. Too bad they couldn't have included something like the pakkawood model as an upgrade though.
