Product Description
The Sturmanskie Gagarin 24 Hours Automatic, so named for the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, is defined by its 24-hour indicator at the dead center of the dial. A worldly watch to a tee, this timepiece features a rotating disc in the center picturing Earth, as if being viewed from the North Pole—just as Gagarin may have seen it on his epic 108-minute space flight in the 1960s Read More
These watches are not worth that much money. This is a resurrection of old crude Soviet calibers albeit with slightly improved dial designs that used to sell for under $30 during the Soviet times.
Thanks for the video!
Still unclear how the 2nd time zone function works. The crown at 10:00 turns the outer 12-hour bezel rather than the inner 24-hour bezel or the globe with the red arrow- it seems to me that this would require some translation in order to get a second time zone. Less than intuitive.
adamfrank64The whole globe, with red arrow, turns using the first stop on the crown stem, so pull it out on spot and one way turns the date wheel, the other turns the GMT wheel which like I said is the whole globe in the center. Here's a youtube where you can see it in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV18JoDddY4&feature=youtu.be
What is with all the overpriced Russian watches on here lately? This is maybe worth half of the "discounted" price if that. Doesn't even have a sapphire crystal ffs.
Save your money, much nicer Russians can be bought for much cheaper.
cmbezlnSturmanskie's are always expensive from what I've seen. i read somewhere that they take the Vostok movements, and take them apart and clean and reassemble them, so they are more reliable. I don't know, however, if that information itself is reliable! Does anyone else? They certainly charge way, way more for Sturmanskie's, everywhere, I've not seen any in the range of typical Vostok's or CCCP's and the like...
I found a great youtube video that highlights the watch. It looks awesome, but I'm still on the fence.
It appears the center world map operates as a 24-hour indicator. The rotating inner bezel allows one to track a separate time zone.
I'm a sucker for display case backs and think this is one of the best features of an automatic watch (although I don't tend to like open heart or skeleton movements as much, ironically).
Just so I have this right. What we have is a 12 hour watch with the ability to dual time via the bezel and a GMT function via an inner rotating disc rather than a 4th hand? Or is the inner disc linked to the hour hand mechanism and only tells you whether it's am or pm?
