Cool... So he managed to reinvent the Deuce of Spades trowel for almost the same weight, needlessly made of titanium, and at twice the price?
Can't wait!
You articulated Macro Theory quite well. Sadly taking the long view isn't a thing with a large portion of my compatriots. It doesn't surprise me in the least the respondent taking the opposing view was a small business owner.

So it's like, Reaganomics was actually a good thing because the sweatshop owners and foreign manufacturers that benefited off the 1%'s outsourcing of American labor had a greater and more positive global socioeconomic impact than if murican's kept their yobs?
American trickle down economics was good for... China thus good for teh world?
That's just madness sir. Who do you think you are, Arthur Laffer ?

wow, what a blatant ripoff of the Deuce of Spades. I think Massdrop should end this drop and do one for the original product.

EnragedI took a soda can and cut it and bent it and folded it and scooped dirt with it. I'm the real inventor of the trowel. You owe me money. Thanks. And now I have to poop.

I gotta say, I really like this new version, without all the holes in the handle. Steve made this holeless version for me a number of months ago and I have been testing it out. Much much nicer to not have all the holes get filled with mud/dirt.
I have attached a photo I just took with the two trowels next to a water bottle and a Suunto MC2-G compass (and skurka's 2nd edition book as baseline), for size comparisons. And yeah, agree that MD needs to include something in their photos for size comparisons!

abelahttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzpvpXkFVPOmZ1VSSjhnaWc1X0E/view To help me decide, I made a printable pdf of the images. Take 4 sheets of paper and staple the ends of the trowels before cutting them out. Because the product images are flat, you have to imagine a bit of depth to the scoop (depth is roughly 5/8" small, 7/8" large).

The Suluk 46 Large just arrived. At first I was very surprised at how light and flimsy it felt. the metal is quite thin and it flexes. I applied force to bent it and was surprised at how rigid it is. the metal folds are very well engineered to keep the trowel stable. I dug a hole with it. WOW. I am in disbelief at how well it digs and remains structurally sound given its weight and thin thickness. I am a convert and still amazed at this strength of this trowel. at first I was thinking "$50 for this??" (the total price in Canadian was $50). but after using it I now feel its well worth the money - its trowel high technology! Looking forward to bringing this on a camping trip and digging holes.

What titanium grade is this? I don't see grade specified in product description. This is important - I had grade 2 trowel and it was too soft. Bought Deuce Scoop grade 5 titanium, good trowel and cost less than this btw.

There is a whole discussion on that Ti grade topic here if you're interested: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vargo-titanium-dig-tool/talk Shows pros and cons. I went with the Vargo.

ProsaicHaha, Ultralight is just the community to be exact in! I spelled it "terds" intentionally as a phonetic expression of my local vernacular pronunciation (Australia, south east coast).

Hah. Are people seriously arguing over who made the first crap digger? Just be happy that there are so many options for disposable income.. Comparing crap diggers as art pieces isn't as glamorous as it might appear..

As has already been established, the Suluk 46 trowel is different than the DoS. I've been using the Suluk 46 trowel and a couple other S46 products for a few years now and have been beyond satisfied. Not sure if you've caught the Suluk 46 youtube channel or Instagram, but it's also pretty entertaining. And its a small business local to my great nation - Awesome! Two thumbs up, massdrop!
