I have this set of speakers. You will not be disappointed. The sound is incredible!!
massmandan
need 6 more people to dive in! spread the word =]
Would these be an upgrade from the promedia 2.1's? Thinking of selling mine and getting something with a cleaner more balanced sound. But yaknow with the option of bass
GabenJewel
Doubt it, the driver sizes are the same. Look into the JBL LSR305 drop for a nice clean, balanced sound upgrade. Can't beat studio monitors for balanced sound. The bass is surprisingly deep for 5" drivers.

I have a love hate with my 305's, they don't fill a room like normal speakers, but are amazing for computer use...but you need a ground loop and a 3.5mm to TRS/XLR to use them, or an external DAC. And the dead flat response allows you to use an EQ to get the exact sound you're after.
I highly recommend these, we got this on our home + the m10 :)
Why do people buy these when you can get the 305's for $200 a pair pretty much anywhere? Not knocking them but I really don't get why they're popular...
Ghost_Pack
A few reasons: they look beautiful, have a sub-woofer, volume control unit, size of satellites. These aren't supposed to be compared to studio monitors, but 2.1 setups like the klipsch, bose (yes I know they suck) logitech, etc.
Ghost_Pack
LSR305's are closer to $300 a pair in the US, and don't offer the base or ease of connection to a PC that a set like this does.
I have and love these. Have owned 3 pairs (moved 3 times, sold them each time and rebought them LOL )
The THD rating is humorous.

But you were basing your comment off of a complete guess correct? You do not know the true THD, but just making an assumption based off your experience with other companies and products that look similar to this one. Unless I am wrong and you have heard and tested these speakers.

I've actually built a few speaker systems with Hivi drivers, so yes, I do feel qualified to comment. I'd still like to see the anechoic sweep at 1W.
My dream speakers right here. Too bad I already have my z906 which I bought a few years ago and I'm broke anyway. But if you're in the market for these I wouldn't hesitate to get his puppy.
Darn...should have waited on getting these vs the Kanto Yu2. I have had my M10's now for 7 years and I loved them (subwoofer having to go on the desk aside but made it work).
FlameTex
The M10 has a midwoofer, which is intended to site on the desk so - you're doing it right.

Probably a very ice system but when the $117 shipping cost is added the price becomes $356 to me in Victoria, bc, Canada. The cute little Kanto system which is made in Vancouver BC. makes much more sense.
shipp to EU plz

These units are 120v/60Hz power for North American markets only.

Great speakers. Bought these 3 weeks ago from Chane Music & Cinema for this same price, so I don't think it's an amazing price but oh well. I see CM&C has raised their price now. I suspect Massdrop may be partnered with them for this deal, who knows.
Used to own this set. Sound very nice with its price. Best Budget choice
Can someone explain to me some of the differences between these and the Kanto YU5? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/kanto-yu5-speaker-system/talk
Do those not have a built-in sub? Still new to this audiophile stuff, thanks for any advice!

One of the biggest differences is the range of input sources available on the YU5's. They include two toslink optical inputs, a set of RCA's, and they are AptX bluetooth enabled. The M50W is limited to a single 3.5mm input. I bought a set of YU5's from a prior drop here on MD, and ran them from my PC soundcard with the 3.5mm cable. I upgraded to an inexpensive DAC soon after (I'd been wanting to off-board the audio from my PC for a long time) and use the RCA inputs now. The DAC made a very audible, very nice difference in the overall sound quality. I pulled a Boston Acoustics 8" sub out of storage and the system sounds amazing now.
I really can't recommend ditching the included audio source from your PC highly enough. It turns out that the environment inside a PC or laptop, with all the electric fan motors, heat, and magnetic interference, is very hostile to audio reproduction. As soon as you can pick up an off board DAC. Run a simple USB cable from PC to DAC, it's plug & play, no drivers needed. Your PC will recognize it within a minute or two of hooking it up. For me the difference in sound quality was a huge surprise and worth many times the small additional cost.
cross
Just FYI, you *can* get RCA to 3.5mm cables, so it's perfectly possible to run these from a DAC.
I would join if it could be sent to sweden!
This brand is from China. I think it explained the shipping cost. I mean almost every thing is from that place.
My Swans M50W just arrived this evening. WOW! Sonic bliss. . . Major upgrade from my former Altec Lansing system. Crisp highs, lush mids and bass with a punch. Love the classy volume control. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face with a crowbar. Thanks Massdrop.

So I live in an apt, its not very big I use my computer running Kodi to watch movies on my TV do you guys think this would be a good deal for the price and sound to use for watching movies on my computer? also do you think I could hook up the audio cable to my sony CMT-SBT100 and then route the sound from my computer as well as using the sony for bluetooth?
WTF $223 for shipping to Australia!!!!
XavierDole
120v/60Hz only for North American markets. This product will not work using 220/50Hz, and at 40# makes no sense mailing to Australia.
$223.25 SHIPPING TO Australia C'mon mass drop, use a proper international shipping company. You've done it before, you should be doing it for everything.
I can only imagine either Massdrop gets the producer to ship directly, or they themselves are using a national freight company. These companies charge slightly less because they don't have to subsidise the cost of international deliveries. But they charge through the roof for international freight because they have to buy space on another companies plane. Time to stop playing in the kiddie leagues, use international couriers regularly so you don't have to pay the once off premium or use two courier services for international and national deliveries (if your customers are that skewed towards Americans and would remain so after the advent of market price shipping).

$186.75 shipping to Singapore! WOW!
Alvyoli
In all fairness it is likely a pretty damn heavy package - I just priced shipping an Indonesian friend some KEF and Paradigm powered monitors and it was way more than that.
Alvyoli
It's a 40# system measuring 22x15x13 so it's going to be costly to ship overseas. More importantly, this is a 120v/60Hz system only. 220v will break it.
