I have one of these. I was skeptical when I decided to get on the buy because of the price- I'd not pay $100 for this, but $70 is about just right.

Pros: Very Soft Leather. Snap holds, but isn't hard to get open. Two large pockets - I carry a field notes and pocketdojo in it- there's very little space which makes them fit perfectly, but I wouldn't use anything that isn't to that size in it. The business card holders are very useful- much more than I'd originally thought. The pockets that the notebooks fit in can also be used for other things.

Cons: Pen loop in the center holds a variety of sizes of implements, but within a certain tolerance. It's just two cuts and a flap going in, but it is reinforced. Right now I have a Lamy Swift in it- I think that's about the largest size I'd try, and that's only after use to let the leather settle- it didn't fit well when I first got it so I fell back on another pen. Over time as the leather wears, it gets to the point where it's a bit formless. I haven't treated the leather at all, and it's picked up pocket lint that has affected the look.

But it's definitely something that I'd purchase again, and am satisfied with.

Will Moleskine notebooks fit in these?

The Leatherback Writer is absolute crap and the worst purchasing decision I made on Massdrop. I felt so embarrassed to be seen carrying it that I've since donated it to the Salvation Army.

The leather used is very thin and soft (not in a good way), which means it shows creases and folds very prominently. I want my leather products to look smart but this just looks shoddy; a crumpled, creased thing after the first day of use. There are many better leatherback writer-type products out there.

Does the left hand pocket allow a US passport? This looks like it might make a good travel wallet if it can hold the passport.
Orguy
from the photo, it looks like the pocket is slightly wider than a credit card on both sides. the leather would also stretch over time so maybe
Hey, I committed, does that automatically move me to joined now?
Does anyone have a link to a review of this exact item somewhere? The reasons is, I saw another This is Ground item at a store here in Chicago recently -- it was the leather pen roll -- and I was extremely disappointed at the quality of the leather used. It felt very flimsy, cheap and just overall poor quality leather. I expected a little more for the price-point. I am a little on the fence about this one. Actually, I'm more a few feet away from the fence. I do like the look, but then again, I liked the look of This is Ground's leather pen roll, but when I finally got to touch and feel the actual item, I thought it was of poor quality. I don't mean to offend, but with a $100 MSRP, I just don't know anymore about the brand. Please advise... anyone. Thank you.

You are correct, this is not quality leather. You can tell just by look at this vs. any other leather drop using true Full Grain leather. Using the term "Genuine Full Grain Leather" is misleading and ambiguous for a reason. Anything that says Genuine, Top Grain, Split Grain, or bonded is going to let you down. Unfortunately most leather items are sold this way because- well it costs less to make. [moderated]

We appreciate the attempt at educating the community and explaining the differences between various kinds of leather. However, as it stands, the claims made about the product in question are unsupported. A review or other evidence that could be linked would be great.

Also, since this is a blatant attempt at advertising your product and goes against our discussion guidelines, I am moderating this post. Please make sure to adhere to the discussion guidelines outlined here: https://www.massdrop.com/article/Discussion-Guidelines
