Named Backpacker Magazine’s “Editors’ Choice” for winter gear in 2015, the Titan Stormproof Match Kit boasts some of the longest-burning windproof and waterproof matches around. Each match has a 25-second burn time, will fire up in the harshest conditions, and will relight even after being submerged in water Read More
So for $15 bucks you get 37 matches...OR for $17 you can get a box of 100 disposable lighters with free shipping on Amazon. And really it's only like 30 matches cause you know as soon as this arrives your gonna play with a few. Yup, gonga deal here folks.
Those bic lighter flints are quite long and usually only 1/3 used when the lighter runs out. I take them out and put into my Zippo, lasts a lot longer than regular Zippo flints
DuxDawgYou are absolutely correct, I did not know about the Titan version. Thanks for the correction.
However, it bears repeating that this drop for some reason is limited to the US, while I can actually get the product from Amazon.
That only has 3 strikers. This 1 has 5 strikers. This also has 37 matches, your link has 12. Again, apples to oranges. Please link exact same offering.
And, Amazon prime isn't free. You must pay monthly or yearly to get their "free" shipping.
UsefuldiotHear Hear! weight should always be included in any ultralight drop original post.
From their website: Weight: 2.9 oz. (82 g) - should include 12, but not the extra matches.
UsefuldiotWe try to list the weight of every item, and since you posted we have added the weights for the matches and match container. Thanks @Usefuldiot for pointing that out. Thanks @slbear for adding in some weights from the UCO website.
CampinSteveI read some reviews that suggested that the striker strip and o-rings on the case ares the weak points of this system. They complained that the strips won't light the matches if not completely dry and that they wear out quickly. The watertight container apparently will leak if immersed in icy cold water owing to o-ring stiffness at low temps a la Challenger disaster. From that I would possibly suggest people include standard kitchen match striker strips in their kit, sealed separately, and perhaps using petroleum grease on the o-rings to aid proper sealing at low temps. Edit: I shouldn't have recommended petroleum grease as a supplement- that can damage o-rings. Silicone grease would be better probably.
Great product, I've got a couple of these. That I got on Sierra Trading Post for $3.99 apiece, totaling $7.98 for exactly what's being offered here.
Come on, Massdrop.
ProPhoto_56401Agreed. The pricing of some of Massdrop's recent stuff has been utterly nonsensical, seemingly making Massdrop like virtually every other vendor vs something special. Either this is a special community that yeilds some pricing benefit of massing together, or its another Sierra Trading Post/Moosejaw/EMS clone.
Shipping is also a HUGE pet peeve to me (ie this NEEDS to be on the FRONT PAGE WITH THE COST OF THE ITEM as the shipping costs often make the item non-competitive in price), cost to ship 1, $3.75, cost to ship 2 $7.75, so the incremental cost of buying an extra one is more than buying individually? Come on...
123zornI hopped on the Morakniv Bushcraft Survival / 511 drop a few weeks ago. Not only did I get an e-mail from them (a day before the drop was supposed to ship) saying that the orange-handled 511 I picked wasn't even available so I had to pick another model- the drop got shipped a week later than "expected", and now the shipping is late en route. And to add insult to injury even further, both the Morakniv Bushcraft Survival and 511 were offered on Amazon IN THE MEANTIME just before Christmas for less than the price offered on Massdrop, with obviously free 2-day Prime shipping.
