In this vertical wallet from Vulture Premium Leather, the joy is in the materials. It features a robust exterior shell of 5-ounce North of Cordovan Chromexcel horsehide from the legendary Chicago tannery, Horween. Inside, the card and stash pockets are made of bridle leather from Pennsylvania’s Wickett & Craig. Once your wallet is broken in, it can fit about a dozen cards in the slots, plus additional cards, cash, receipts, and more in the pockets underneath. Made in New Orleans by Vulture’s founder, Will DePass, each wallet is hand saddle stitched with linen thread and finished with burnished edges.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of color: black and tan, burgundy and chestnut, natural and tan, limited-edition black and black, or limited-edition natural and tan. The limited-edition wallets feature relatively rare, tiger-striped horsehide leathers from DePass’s personal collection.
Ideal for wallets due to its density and unique beauty, the horsehide used for the exterior has been treated with Horween’s proprietary chrome-tanning process, hot-stuffed with various natural oils and greases, and completed with a hand-rubbed finish. The bridle leather used for the interior is extremely durable without getting bulky. And as the name suggests, this type of leather was originally intended for horse bridles and built to withstand hard use in a wide variety of weather conditions. At the tannery, it’s stuffed with tallow and finished with wax on both the flesh and grain side for strength and weatherproofing.
