Great kettle, really upped the quality of my daily pour-over. My only complaint is a pretty minor interface/design preference, where I wish the hold function would last through picking the kettle up and putting it down without having to re-set the hold temp every time.
Other than that, it's easy to control the pour, it heats quickly and accurately, and it holds plenty enough water to make a cup for breakfast and fill my travel mug for the day. Wins across the board.
Works great, does exactly what I was expecting. The heating is quick and precise. I highly recommend using the protective base cover (included), since I have splashed water on the protector on several occasions. I'm glad I haven't learned the hard way how the base would handle the splashes - better safe than sorry.
I use my kettle to make coffee at the office and it's pretty much perfect for my needs - small enough to fit on my desk easily but with more than enough capacity for a day's worth of coffee. It heats quickly and pours without spilling. My only caveat is that the metal feels a bit thin and flimsy, and I worry that it might dent easily or simply give out some day. But that hasn't happened yet. Oh, and people feel compelled to say "Hey, you've got your own kettle!" when they walk by. Yes, I've noticed, thank you.
I use this kettle every day, usually more than once. After figuring out temps that work for my tea and coffee setups I'm always happy with the results. When I'm lazy or in a big hurry I can do instant coffee at 160 degrees and drink it right away. I use it for miso soup I can make right in the bowl a couple times a week. There's really no end to how useful a temp control kettle is. The gooseneck works perfectly and makes it easy to control the pour. I was using a basic kettle and a thermapen before and this has made my life much easier.
It works great, and it seemed like quality construction, except that it's got some questionable metallurgy. Probably less than a week using it, and it started developing corrosion on the lid. A few days more, and I noticed more corrosion around the top where the lid sits. Next day I saw corrosion specking the inside as well.
I did a bit of research and all I could find was that it could be replaced under warranty, and that I should use some kind of special water. Distilled maybe? Problem is, I don't want to have to keep getting warranty replacements every two weeks because it'll keep rusting, and I don't want to have to use some fancy water neither. I should be able to run tap water into this thing, boil it, use it, and not have any problems.
In summary, it's intrinsically flawed. Only reason why it didn't get just one star is because it works, and it pours great.
withtheswordI wonder if it's your water? I have had this kettle for several years without a reaction, but I use a whole house filter, and live in the land of softish water.
I'm pretty happy with this Bonavita 1L kettle. I have not had a gooseneck kettle before, so it has been a pleasant experience using this one. I find that the temperature is accurate as measured by an instant read thermometer, it does keep to a nice tight heat range when using the hold feature. 1L is just the right amount for one person, if you plan on making more than one cup of coffee (on the regular, that is) for you and someone else, i'd probably go with the larger version I've seen on here. Either way, nice product from Bonavita.
This kettle is amazing. I love it. The ability to dial in the temperature is great. I can experiment with different temperatures for my coffee and if I have tea that requires a different temperature, I can now do that too! It also has a built-in stopwatch which is great when I am feeling like a true third-wave coffee person and want to time my pour over.
