I bought a pair of Elite Velour for my Elex and can’t be more happy about it. The Elex was a bit bass light and too bright for my preference, but these Elite Velour pads increased the bass quantity and tamed the highs, making the Elex a much more effortless listening. They’re also super comfortable. If you like your Elex a bit warmer and less bright, these pads are perfect.

Headphones: Hifiman HE-400i The original pads are crap. They lasted a few months before the glue gave out and they fell apart. The replacement Dekoni Premium Pads were much better quality, fit well, with no need to purchase separate plastic rings, arrived before the estimated date in a beautiful box and I couldn't be happier. If you are a HiFiman owner you know whats up with the shitty stock pads. These are an obvious replacement buy

I'm not sure which pads I bought in this exact drop, but I have the Elite Velour and lambskin for the Sennheiser 6XX and the Protein for the TH-X00 and the Attenuation ring for the TH-X00. For much of this review I'll be comparing to stock pads found on the headphones listed above and ZMF pads (Eikon Suede & Leather, Ori Leather).
TH-X00 Protein Pads First off, these are all well made pads and very comfortable, the TH-X00 pads are a little on the small size (about the same as stock), but the memory foam is some of the best I've found in consumer pads. Feel wise, the protein is my favorite across all pads I have, it is so smooth and the memory foam just cuddles your face; these are also terrible pads if you are using these in a warm environment as your ears will get warm. These are great pads for the TH-X00 if you want to keep the same sound, but I would recommend the ZMF Eikon Leather pads over these on that pair of headphones, always using the Attenuation ring.
Sennheiser 6XX Leather Pads These are my least favorite of the bunch, one of the great things about the 650/6XX is that you can use it as a leaping off point to talk about other headphones. These pads are still comfortable but change the sound just a little too much for me to recommend them. The change in sound is a little negative, I feel like it loses too much accuracy and the bass becomes a little less managed.
Sennheiser 6XX Velour Pads I like these, these are significantly more comfortable than the stock pads, especially when not broken in. These pads add a little bit of soundstage for a cost of a little bit of accuracy, but overall the sound is very similar. Maybe overtime these would become even closer to the Stock 6XX sound. Today I have gone back to the stock pads but I really do think that if I gave these pads a little more time they would win me over.
Final thoughts: If you like the stock pads for the TH-X00 and just want them to be a little softer on your face, get the protein pads, if you need a little more room for your ear, get the ZMF Eikon pads and the Dekoni Attenuation Ring(with either pads).
If you are fine with the comfort of the 6XX, don't get other pads, I haven't found pads that sound better with the 6XX than the regular stock pads. If you need the 6XX to be a little more comfortable, get the Elite Velour pads, they are about 4x more comfortable and decrease the sound quality by 2%.

ChollyThanks for the detailed review on the 6xx pads, convinced me that I don't really need to replace the stock ones.

Leaking dye ruined my headphones
Dye leaks from pads and ruined my Sony 1000 xm3 headphones. Notified Dekoni and they denied knowledge of this. Recommended that I use Magic Eraser to get rid of dye marks. Zero customer service. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Bought the Elite Hybrid for Fostex TH-X00 Ebony and Beyerdynamic DT 880/770. Awaiting delivery of the Elite Velours for the 880. I find it hard to give an accurate rating because the pads are so much more comfortable than the stock pads that I'm finding it difficult to not use them, but at the same time, massively angry at how much I've had to shell out for them considering they compromised the sound quality so much. Fostex TH-X00 Ebony + Elite Hybrid:
  • Soundstage was very adversely affected and the vocals became significantly recessed.
  • Isolation improved a great deal at the expense of muddying up the bass.
  • Ever since my first pair of audiophile headphones, the DT 770, i swore never to wear any headphones that isn't velour. I thought the Elite Hybrid would be a good compromise for my endgame closed-back headphones but I have to go back to stock pads because I didn't spend so much money to have my Fostex sound so negatively affected to this extent.
Beyerdynamic DT 880 + Elite Hybrid:
  • Ok, I know a semi-open back pair like the DT 880 isn't supposed to have pleather sealed pads. I'm using the Elite Hybrid until my pair of Elite Velours arrive. I'll then move this Elite Hybrid to my DT 770
  • The Elite Hybrid had the same effect on the sound as it did for my Fostex, and the effect is even more noticeable since the 880 is supposed to be semi-open and extremely accurate. It messed up the neutrality and cannot be recommended for any open-back, closed-back headphones at all.
  • It did solve the biggest problem I had with Beyerdynamic headphones which is the shallow cups that cause my earlobes pain after wearing for over an hour. Which is why I'm hoping the Elite Velours can meet my needs though I'm not optimistic as I suspect the deep cups is the reason why the sound is so greatly affected.
Conclusion: The design of the Elite Hybrid is ingenious and exceedingly comfortable but I'm terribly upset that it comes at the cost of gimping the sound quality of your headphones. And I noticed that the Elite Hybrids are much thicker than the stock pads of the Fostex TH-X00. Now I can't help but wonder if it's the thickness of the pads and not so much the design or materials used that kills the sound signature. As expensive as this product is, I'd have gladly paid even more had they been able to achieve the comfort while still maintaining the original sound of the stock pads. I'm wearing the Fostex TH-X00 with stock pads as I'm typing this and the comfort is pure garbage. So you can imagine how badly the Dekoni pads messed up the sound. P.S.: I'm seriously considering finding someone online who can customize my Dekoni pads to reduce the thickness and see if the sound quality can be maintained so I don't waste all this money spent on the Dekoni pads. Nov 25, 2019 Update: So I finally got to try the Elite Velour on my DT 880. It is much better suited than the Elite Hybrid for open-backs like the DT 880 as expected (the bass wasn't exaggerated anymore). But the same problem remains, very noticeable recessed mids and vocals. By the way, I realized I didn't articulate the exact sound problem in my original review. If you use Dekoni pads, be prepared to lose the intimacy/forwardness of the mids/vocals because they will sound noticeably more distant. They are 5 stars for comfort and 1 star for destroying your headphones' mids (at least as far as the Fostex and Beyerdynamic DT models are concerned)

BroncoI also agree, I tried the pleather, leather, and hybrid with and without attenuation ring on TH-X00 and none of them sound like or better than stock. Comfort is good though but I couldn't get over the sound changes unfortunately. Ended up not using any of them.

Got the Dekoni Elite Hybrids for the Fostex TH-X00, HD800S and HD6XX and boy was I in for a journey. I'll explain my experience with each Headphone as I was not expecting the things I came across. Fostex TH-X00

Comfort: By far, the easiest and most straightforward upgrade for these headphones. The OEM pads are simply rubbish. They are shallow, tough and they just got my ears all sweaty for some odd reason. The Dekoni's were a huge upgrade in comfort. I went from being able to wear the headphones for 20-30 minutes to using them all day at work for almost 6 hours straight. Audio Signature: Not going to lie, I wish comfort didn't come at a cost, but it wasn't as drastic as some of the other headphones I expand on further down. The TH-X00 Mahagony's are known for V-shaped signature. The Hybrid pads rolled off a bit of that treble, the good thing is I'm a bit sensitive to too much treble so I didn't mind that change. That being said, lows also took a slight hit, but after much A/Bing I just accepted the comfort over the bit of lows that I lost simply because I do enjoy listening to these headphones so much. Sennheiser HD6XX

Comfort: As easy and straightforward as the Fostex, although I didn't have too many qualms with the original pads Sennheiser used for the HD6XX's. That being said, the Dekonis just cushioned my head better and overall more comfortable. Audio Signature: This was an interesting one, the Elite Hybrids made the 6XX's a bit punchier and meatier in the bass department. The one good thing about the 6XX's is they can take quite a bit of EQing without much distortion, so I always relied on EQ for cranking up the bass in Electronic tracks. I felt that I didn't need to do that much anymore. That being said, clarity took a beating, the treble was a bit more recessed and that soundstage I loved so much felt a bit narrower. That was enough of a difference for me to revert back to the original pads. For other people, it might be small enough of a trade off. Sennheiser HD800S

Comfort: I did not like the comfort of the Elite Hybrids on my HD800S. It simply did not work for me. I have a fairly large noggin, and these pads just made what is usually a comfortable pair rather clampy and it started bothering me after a few minutes of usage. My main gripe with the HD800S is the top band which I fixed with Dekoni nuggets, but that's a different story. Audio Signature: If there's a headphone that suffered dramatically from a pad change it's this one. I can't put into words the level of magnitude in which sound signature had been altered. My HD800S are my favorite set of cans to listen to because of their absolutely crystal clear sound, insanely huge soundstage and detail. Let's just say the pads killed every single thing I loved about these cans. I lost the highs, the mids got muddy and the lows became muddy and just annoying to listen to. It simply sounded like a completely different headphone. I immediately took them out and put them back in their box. I can see them maybe working for the original HD800 since they are very trebley but for the HD800S I would stay away. Final Conclusion Pads play a HUGE role in how a headphone sounds. I never in my life could have imagined how much something as simple as pads could affect the sound but to me it did a great deal. If you have a pair of Fostex TH-X00's and hate how they feel, I'd say its safe to go with the Elite Hybrids. But I cannot vouch for the HD6XX and HD800s' being a good pairing as that didn't work for me at all. I suppose the germans knew what they were doing when they built these two headphones and they shouldn't be messed with.

ShazManThanks ShazMan - this helped me in making it an easy decision not to pick these up for my HD800s. I too have a big head and don't want to drop any on these if they give the HD800s a higher clamping force. Appreciate your in-depth review, you save me some coin. :)

ShazManlol I think I tried pleather / leather / hybrid with and without attenuation rings on my TH-X00, while some get close but I still don't think any of them can match stock pad sound unfortunately. I end up going back to stock pad because I couldn't get over the sound signature change. :P However for those who want a slightly wider opening, TH610 pads might be the closest (they're a tiny bit wider but otherwise dimensional very similar, but will change sound slightly).

Focal Elite Velour and Focal Fenestrated Sheepskin for my Focal Elex headphone. Softness - Soft : Elex default pads > Fenestrated Sheepskin > Elite Velour : Hard The elex default pads are so soft for me that my ears touch the housing of the headphone. Fenestrated Sheepskin's softness is the best for me. Elite Velour is little too hard for a long listening. Sound Field - Wide : Elex default pads > Fenestrated Sheepskin > Elite Velour : Tight (and Bass boosted) Elex default pads are well balanced but sometimes I feel apart. Elite Velour's field is too tight for me. However it depends on what kinds of music you listen. In conclusion, I picked Fenestrated Sheepskin as my default pads for elex.
