I've never heard of this steel. Can anyone comment on it? I'm used to the super steels of folder pocket knives -- for example, S35VN, S110V, ZDP-189, and M390/CTS-204P/20CV, M4, and Maxamet.

Ok couldn’t they just do what some companies do and weld them together. The edge would be say vg10 and the other 80% would be a softer, tougher stainless. From a previous post I read that the laminate can crack so wouldn’t two steels welded Make a stronger blade?

BMWillcould you clarify what you mean by weld do you mean pattern weld like damascus becouse otherwise that is exactly what theyve done welded too pieces of soft steel (420j) with a harder steel (cos)

Is it just the Zytel sheath or the zytel and leather sheath?
Here is Fallkniven's description:
In its original form the KK or Kolt Knife had a very simple blade cover. However, many fans of the KK knife today were interested in traditionally shaped leather sheath. We are now offering the KK frock knife with well-fitting sheath made of heavy black leather of the best quality. A small zytel edge cover is also included.

Neji this drop lists this knife as the KKLz. that model description includes the Leather sheath as well as the Zytel blade cover as per your description above. if it does NOT include the leather cover then the model number is simply KK-Z. Massdrop needs to confirm which this is, because the knife without leather sheath is available from vendors for the same price with free shipping...

I have had this knife for a little while now. I have many knives including an f1, s1 and wm1. I have been very happy with all of my fallknivens. Like the others the build quality of this knife is excellent. Most people buy a certain knife to fit a certain role. Hunting, bushcraft, cooking, edc, etc. I see this knife primarily as an edc or a hiking knife given its size. The leather sheath is a dangler style so works well with a backpack. The size and weight for me is about right for backpacking. Small enough for ease of carry but large enough to be pressed into hard service. If you want a knife for bushcrafting or more extended use I think I might look at the f1 or s1.

I've owned one of these for a few weeks now and I have to say it's great blade for everyday use. I have large hands and it's comfortably within a 4 finger grip. It's also the sharpest factory edge I've ever received. Plus the convex edge is easily maintained at scary sharp level by simple stropping. Not that it'll need much as the edge retention is excellent. It's surprisingly comfortable in the pocket with the zytel sheath, although I prefer the leather sheath as its small enough to be barely noticed yet extremely functional

I have a bushcraft knife with the drop handle like this and I find it really limiting. You just can't get the leverage you need for some tasks and it's harder to apply direct pressure onto the point of the blade (for making a notch in wood for instance). Just fyi.

dingieI agree with your handle shape comments, but then, the Kolt isn’t intended for that kind of use. It’s a utility knife intended for pocket carry (despite its size). The shape is intended to slip in and out of a pocket easily. Think coat/jacket pocket ... not pants.

billcThat makes sense then. The one I bought, which is otherwise a great knife, was framed as a bushcraft knife. It's a bit too big for an EDC (unless you're in an industry where carrying a solid fixed-blade knife is normal).

Excellent blade. Just be careful not to brake the layered steel cover. I think Fällkniven are overpriced, though. When this Kolt knife was launched, FK would include just a ridiculous El Cheap-o plastic cover. As complaints mounted, they now offer a leather sheath. Previous owners (me) have to spend about $70 to get it.

AchBladesHave you had that happen? Isn't the point of the layered steel to have a softer (less prone to braking, chipping, cracking, corrosion) steel on the outside and the harder more brittle steel protected in the middle?

TPeterson13I have not. But there are plenty of videos on YouTube that report this problem concerning FK lamineted blades. You would better choosing FK's 3G versions. Much expensive, though.

This drop includes the leather belt sheath, and the Zytel "sheath" which is more of an edge cover. @Papeh @Secondmouse @Neji

This is a good price for the UK, even with the tax, my Fallknivens are usually the sharpest knives in my collection, that VG10 core takes an edge, convex too don't forget, they just have something about them, never paid full price for one cos they are a bit overpriced, this one isn't though, may jump in.
