I own the 3L. Solid product. I use it with the Katadyn BeFree water filter. It's fast with a large quantity. I end up drinking more water because compared to my Sawyer setup, I can both fill more quickly and filter more quickly. It's also easy to latch onto the top of a pack with some spots to tie-down.
However the pricing on this drop is ridiculous. You can get it cheaper at your local REI/outdoor shop or via Amazon. And you won't have to wait a few weeks for it to ship.
CooledFocusJust Google it. Any option that comes up with free shipping will be cheaper than buying this drop. Walmart has it with free shipping, no minimum. REI has it if you grab a $50 total order. Amazon has it if you're a prime member. That's not a comprehensive list. You might save a dollar on tax, but this is an absurd "deal".
Single malt. Done the old way, as it was before the process was corrupted by modern concepts like, you know... sanitation. I hear that the legend is that it was invented to make the water from certain poison springs in the peat bogs usable. Turned into this, drinking it wouldn't kill you quickly anymore.
So the caps break easily, they have odour issues and they impart a taste to the water. Is there anything else I should know about these before I don't order them?
Just got mine in the mail today. Love the idea but plastic pool float smell and taste is real. So far I filled with hot water let sit for a few hours and dumped three times, the fumes are still strong. Current trying the lemon juice freezer thing, if it doesnt work its going in the garbage. Was upset I missed the other hydrapack drop for the bottles, not so much anymore. Not giving up hope yet, like I said I just got it today.
Thanks. Would have thought that maybe the Lemon Juice and Vinegar may eat-away at the plastic coating but you haven't mentioned anything along those lines, so I will take it that it is all good! I will definitely try this, I have the 3L bladder on it's way as well as this container.
Bought 2 pcs of the 1 liter seeker thru this drop.
Compared to the hydrapak softflask 750ml and Stash 750ml, the seeker is the worst tasting of all the collapsible bottles that I ve own..
The rubbery smell and taste just wouldn't go after repeated washing and usage.
Update: So even after doing a week long water storage test with deionised water (to make certain it was nothing interacting with the container) I was disappointed to find a strong artificial odour still permeates the bottle.
As a final resort I attempted freezing the container, this made no noticeable difference sadly...
Currently I've returned to using my significantly heavier Geigerrig setup, though if you strip off the hoses it is only around twice the weight.
Hopefully over time the hydrapak bottle will lose its odour/taste as it is wonderfully light and packable.
TeliosI ve tried washing over and over but the seeker bottle still taste weird. Not confident now if the material is food grade and safe to use for water.
Do these have any metal on them? I'd love to use one of these for hiking, but also for sneaky booze into my local music venues that now use metal detectors since the Bataclan incident in Paris.
Hmm... I was initially interested in buying several of these to amend my current system, but the missing caps and persistent smell problems seem much worse than what I'm currently using. On that note: I'd love to see Massdrop offer platypus water storage containers. I've been using 3-5 one liter collapsible platypus bottles for years now - and platypus has been offering these since forever it seems. I've never had problems with smell, they are PVC free, and I'm clocking mine at 0.84 ounces each (a lower weight than offered here with this product). I can see some slight design advantages this hydrapak has over platypus' offering (wider mouth, perhaps easier to fill in shallow water), but I think they are more than offset by the *slightly* heavier weight and problems with smell. fwiw...
