Anyone have any idea what an “included power adapter” is? Is that a lost-in-translation AC power cord? 😀
SStas
Just the AC power cord.
This is a big dot.

I have had the solid state balanced amp by Little Dot (MKVII) for over eight years now and I am very happy with its overall build quality and performance. I believe the company is based in Hong Kong and their quality control is very solid. I am very interested in this amp, particularly, the MKVIII SE version.

These are DOGE 9 PAB mono-blocks with autobias adjustment, http://www.doge.audio/products/tube-power-amps/doge-9-pab/.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. This is a new manufacture for me.

Any comparisons to La Figaro 339, sound quality and build quality wise?
I really like the way this amp looks but it seems like you all are saying this amp will fail. I am I reading you all correctly?
If you like to tinker yourself and really want to try something fun, checkout Bottlehead amps. www.bottlehead.com
Darn, I just blew $719.99 on a light bulb that makes my room a wee bit brighter. Guess I'll have to start saving up again!
I see that the following upgrades are available if you order a Mk8 SE unit directly from Little Dot: Driver Tubes: JAN5965 (+160) Mundorf Cap: (+177) Teflon silver plated wire and Silver solder (+299) Ho, Ho, Hoo....Massdrop....any chance of making these upgrades available here on Massdrop as well....would make Great Sense, I believe...

I'm not sure what to think... From my moniker you might think I'm into tubes...and I am. Yes this a saucy little piece of equipment. As near as I can tell, the structure of the amp will likely yield a good balanced sound as far as tube amps go. On top of that, my first headphone amp was the Little Dot MT (Micro Tube). I selected that one, because the design and construction showed a great deal of respect for the sound. The power "brick" wasn't a wall wart. It was a substantially designed power supply isolated electrically. The construction was very good. All-in-all, I really liked the unit. It sounded good, tubey and with a healthy amount of authority. I'm now projecting this experience onto the amp offered here. I fear I can't be objective. Quick somebody, list some real world comparisons for me.
HollowState
If this helps, it has fans inside, what sent me back to looking at the La Figaro for a possible future otl.
Also directly from Little Dot, the base unit costs $756 + Shipping ($100 to US, by DHL from what i remember)

This or the Woo WA22?

The Woo WA22 is a much better amp, just know that it isn't a fully balanced amp. The output transformers are still single ended despite the rest of the amp being balanced. As for Mjolnir vs WA22, it's really solid state output vs tube output and what you prefer. For planars, solid state is usually better since tubes can't keep up with the current demand. For high impedance dynamics, tube is usually better due to its naturally high output voltage.
Not just better, I think this amp would choke power-hungry cans. That is to say, it's specifically designed for high-impedance headphones.
I used to own the MKVI+ a few years back. It's a decent amp, but for the money you'd be better off with a Schiit Mjolnir 2. If you have any issues with the LD then you're either repairing it yourself or shipping it back to China. Changing the output gain is done by dip switches inside the amp. So letting the tubes cool, removing them, unplugging cables, removing the bottom panel, etc. gets old really quick if you have different headphones. FWIW, YMMV and all that.

My experience with the mk8se with some mods is that it has given me 3 solid years of performance with zero issues. I’m sorry yours didn’t work right.
Fishball
I mod it after 6 months of purchased, due to the smoke come out from the amp. i FULLY upgrade almost everything inside the amp which include Dale & Mills resistor, Nichicon FG caps, Mundolf EVO oil caps, MUndolf MKP caps, Teflon cable & Silicon cable, VU meter and repaint gloss finish the outside cover
Are these amps self biasing or manual biase?
junglewee
Self.

Thanks. SE looks very tempting.
Also, single pot on dual mono somewhat defeats the purpose for me
This looks really nice, but the 339 seems to be where its at in this price point?
Just pull out your "plastic fantastic" and charge it... ;-)
Oh, if only I had a thousand bucks to throw at a headphone amp... I'd love that mkVI+.
demize
Nah you need a thousand bucks headphone first ;-D

I actually preferred my hd600 to the hd800 on this amp (mk8se)
