marts_sumLol okay, and lots of people prefer to settle for an inferior and gimped product in that case. Removable cables are objectively better. When your dealing with a $500 pair of headphones longevity is a key feature.
marts_sumIt's not even just about the removable cable (although that is nice if, for example, you are fancy and want to swap in a balanced cable) from what I've read the EMU-Teak sounds better than the TH-X00
rhenomReally?? I'd like to read those reviews, for curiosity sake. I have both the E-MU Ebonys and the TH-X00 Ebonys and I was thinking that the TH sound better so far. Only had them for 2-3 weeks, so it could be 'shiny new ball' syndrome, but I thought the TH sounded more full. I am using them with the M-9XX and sometimes with a Vorzuge Pure 2+ amp in between the M-9XX and the headphones. I know that's complete overkill, but I have noticed significant improvement of sound from (over) amping, even on low impedance headphones. I'll have to go check again, but I was thinking the THs were better so far. But as we all know, sound preference is quite subjective, especially when two products are so similar.
BlackramboI've got Beyer. T1 gen1s, Stax 404 Signature and Stax 404 Limeted ed, all considerably more $ thas n these - and guess what? None of them have removable cable (although the new T1 Gen2 do). Maybe it's because all the above HPs came with a good cable to begin with.
BlackramboIf you tend to break cables, detachable is good. (Although if you're rough on gear you'll bust the jacks anyway).
If the stock cable is rubbish, detachable cable is good (so you can spend more $ to get what should have been provided in the first place)
If you want to run SE hedphones on a balanced amp, or visa-versa, a detachable cable is good.
If you just want excellent transmission of signal to drivers, and the HP come with a good quality cable, I can see little if any real benefit in detachable. I'd argue that a good solder join is better long term than many pins, plugs and sockets are.
