Like a vintage astronomical clock, the Orient Executive Sun & Moon V3 has every bit of old-world charm you could ever ask for. The main attraction is the sun and moon complication between 5 and 6 o’clock Read More
Okay, real talk... and please pardon my apprehension. I'm new to Massdrop, and off the bat, I'm getting excited about all I'm finding on here. But on so many of the watches I'm seeing listed, I see "found it cheaper elsewhere," or "wasn't what I was expecting." And in some general Massdrop site reviews (and no, not a whole lot) some users claim to have received fakes.
This watch looks NICE, and add to that, it's automatic with sapphire crystal. I've never seen these specs on a watch this cheap. I wanna pull the trigger, but almost seems to good to be true.
Anyone out there with some experience on this site that might help to allay this anxiety? As I'm sure everyone agrees, it's nice to know what you're walking into.
Many thanks!
gambitionAgeree with other answers to your concerns--just wanted to add that Orient is a great source for lots of watch for less dollars. In house movements, and if you insist on sapphire crystals (I do) there are some amazing deals within the Orient catalog. They do put out a lot of mineral glass watches, but this and a hand full of other models utilize sapphire. I waited over two years for their USA Mako II to go on sale, and it was worth the wait! This is a solid deal in general, but personally I don't do roman numerals on my watches. Enjoy!
mk37That seller on Amazon (RD Brands) isn't on Orient USA's authorized list which means if you need service they're going to turn you away. Learned this the hard way when I purchased from creation watches a year ago.
I have the old version in blue, and the dial is amazing. It is a beautiful watch, especially for this price. The only downside is the fake alligator strap. I went ahead and bought a proper strap for it (anything looks better than fake alligator ).
BranCrackerAt first a blue Hirsch calfskin. Then I had it on a blue Alligator that my dog started eating (expensive treat). Now I have it on a light brown Ashland Leather "Dubliner" strap. It looks really good with the contrast, but a padded dark blue strap is perfect. It is difficult to match Alligator or croc with this (usually too light), and they are really expensive.
While I think moonphase watches are neat, the sun/moon indicator would seem to be useful only to those people who have trouble keeping track of AM/PM. It kind of seems like they wanted to make a moonphase but couldn't figure out how to do it.
A word of warning to those considering drops WITHOUT manufacturers warranty. I went in last February on this watch and was a little wary about the lack of warranty. My fears came to pass when the I noticed the watch was consistently fast. By the time I got around to doing something about it, it was gaining five minutes a day.
Let me say MassDrop has been extremely helpful...they immediately confirmed my coverage under their warranty and authorized me to get it repaired at the location of my choosing. My mistake was going to Orient USA! They told me they were the only authorized repair location, so I figured...go with the “best”. They got my watch Oct 6, and I have not heard anything from them since!
I had to send multiple emails with my delivery confirmation to get them to even acknowledge receiving it. They finally responded and told me they wouldn’t have a price for me until after they got the watch back from the repair “fulfillment” location! No price until AFTER it was repaired??? Eight weeks after I sent it to them, still nothing. When I inquired again (they would not respond to my email chain and only responded to a fresh inquiry I made on their website), they seemed annoyed and told me that as they explained before, they would let me know when they got it back!
So...take from this what you will. I’ve gotten my last Orient watch.
Jtkmd1Appreciate you sharing your experience and the warning. I do empathize with your experience and wish you hadn't gone through it my fellow watch brother. We should all share our experiences to keep our community from unpleasant experiences. Jtkmd1, thank you for doing your part in our watch community.
As someone who owns the watch, I would not recommend people getting it.
The watch constantly stopped working whether it is because the spring broke or the day dial was in between the day markers, etc.
In the first year I owned it, I had probably 4 problems with the watch and I had to keep spending money on shipping to get it fixed.
After the one year manufacturers warranty passed, another problem occurred and I said "FUCK THIS STUPID WATCH".
I don't even know where I put it. That's how frustrated I was with it.
The watch is also extremely thick. You won't fit it under your dress shirt. And it doesn't look well with a suit (unless you change the strap)
Speaking about the strap, it is not genuine leather like the strap says, but a fake, a fake that got stained over the time I wore it.
Piece of shit of a watch. Better spend the money on a low tier Swiss.
To the people saying this watch can be had for less than $200, be careful. The MD models have the newer movement. The sub-$200 are likely old stock. I would pay a bit more for the newer model, but that's just me.

BruceReiThis model is actually old stock, since it’s version 3. Versions 1 & 2 have the older movement and different placement of the subdials. Version 4, the newest, has Arabic instead of Roman numerals. You’ll find this version on Massdrop available on amazon for $185-$225 depending on color model.
