Started by lithographer Johann Adolph Rohrer in 1892 and officially founded in 1907 by his son and new partner, Felix Arthur Klingner, the Rohrer & Klingner Leipzig-Co is now managed by fifth-generation family members. These brilliantly colored schreibtinte, or writing inks, use traditional methods and time-tested formulas based on natural, renewable ingredients. They display high "capillarity," meaning they dry quickly on most paper and are suitable for both fountain and dip pens. You'll also get one Erka-Rapid ink reservoir insert, which makes it easier to fill your fountain pen when ink levels are low.
Note: At checkout, choose three bottles from a variety of colors (see options below). If your desired color is not available in choice #1, check #2 or #3.
One of the few modern manufacturers that produces iron gall ink, Rohrer & Klinger offers two shades of this historically significant formula: Salix and Scabiosa. Made from oak apples, iron gall ink has been used by the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, Johann Sebastian Bach, and was even used in the drafting of the United States Constitution. Rohrer & Klingner’s modern formula will change color over time due to oxidation, and is not recommended for all pen types due to possible corrosion. Iron gall ink requires regular cleaning and should not sit inside your pen for extended amounts of time, as it is prone to staining and clogging.
