Could this be used as ear plugs at the gun range?

Diamond1087Yes. They could, but cheap foam ones can usually take things down 30dbs or more at a lower price. The stadium model of these takes volume down 21db. These are mainly made for situations where you want to hear things, but just want a volume reduction, not sound quality reduction. A pair of reactive earmuffs will always be better at the range.

Diamond1087I have a pair of Surefire EP7. http://www.surefire.com/media/wysiwyg/main_site_pdfs/EP7_Sonic_Defenders_Ultra.pdf
I used them once at the loudest football stadium in the country. It was pretty impressive how well the filters work. Without the EP7s, it was painful because it was so loud; with, it was comfortable, and with the plugs in, I didn't hear the din through my ear canals as much as through my skull.
I use them to shoot, but I also recently bought a pair of Peltor Sport RangeGuard Electronic Hearing Protection to double up when I shoot. They're ear muffs, but they have little microphones that you turn on with a little volume control knob so you can hear the range master, instructor, or carry a conversation, while still blocking out the gunfire. I haven't shot with them yet, but I've napped with them and they're comfortable. They're pretty low profile, too, so you should still be able to shoulder a rifle or shotgun.
