Product Description
Whether you’re running, hiking, cycling, or just caught out in the rain, these lightweight, waterproof socks from Showers Pass are up to the challenge. They feature a three-layer construction: the first is a wear-resistant knit exterior that feels like a regular sock; the second is a waterproof, breathable Artex membrane; and the third is a moisture-wicking, antibacterial lining Read More

I don't understand what these are useful for. They're waterproof so chances are your feet will sweat more and get moist anyway. And if you're wearing these inside non-waterproof shoes, the shoes will still get soaked and heavy and unpleasant.

anujayaI personally wouldn't use these to hike in. What they are very useful for is camp footwear if you dont want to bring along a pair of camp shoes. They are also useful if you are forced to put on a pair of soaking wet boots. Even though you might sweat depending on the circumstances, its better than having a wet foot all day.

anujayaI actually would be interested in them so I could wear them with my cleats while playing in snow. Right now most people that I play with layer a plastic shopping bag over their socks and wear those in their cleats.

These are so thick that they will not fit with any of 3 pairs of bike shoes, boots or running shoes. Absolutely awful product, totally impractical. You would need to go up 2 shoe sizes to accommodate these socks

kyubiTry bread bags. The idea of breathable socks that are waterproof, is a joke. Wet feet are a non-issue when it is warmer provided you can dry your feet out in the air during a lunch break and again at night as you sleep. For Immersion foot type conditions, find a salve with beeswax for use before bedtime. For cold weather, I have successfully used polypropylene sock liners and bread bags alone but if you need more warmth, use a wool sock over the top of the bread bag. If you have chosen waterproof boots/shoes for cold weather, the bread bag will keep moisture out of the inside of your boots/shoes so you do not have to sleep with boots/shoes to keep them from freezing up. A dry boot, inside and out makes for happy feet. I use Beeswax on my leather boots for cold and wet.

Nonbeliever in waterproof socks. Unless you shave your legs and tape tops - I’m unwilling. Wool and good drainage are better imo

KnutYup. Non believer in waterproof shoes or socks. Drainage. And drying off at destination.

How much do they weigh? The Sealskinz that I bought a few months ago weigh in at 4 1/4 oz, which was rather disappointing.

It may be too late to add to this drop, but I'd be more interested if the inner material were wool instead of polyester, and Showers Pass does make such socks.
From what I've read on the internet, these seem much more useful on relatively cold days or where the water they'd be exposed to was relatively cold.

I just learned a valuable lesson when it came to riding in these during heavy rain. The lesson was, "don't". They filled up to the brim and my feet sloshed around in water. Having to stop every few minutes to push the water out from the ankle up was less than desirable. It was like wearing ankle weights, and when you're already 100k into a ride, the last thing you need is more weight to tire your legs out.

I have a pair of sealskins I use when it is snowy for warm camp socks. I would never hike in them. I bought showers pass socks for cycling and they soaked through. I returned them to the store and they took them back saying they had several returns. My sealskins don't get soaked cycling. My two cents.

LessdistressedI've hiked in Sealskinz socks and find that they are fantastic. Day hiking only, with a day pack and non-waterproof approach shoes (I hate the idea of Goretex in shoes). Not multi-day affairs with leather hiking boots, of course.

When I washed mine in the regular wash cycle they came out full of water. Guess you need to turn them inside out before washing. On the plus side these are the first socks from Massdrop that fit. Had to return some Darn Tough and give away 3 pairs of Fitsox. Buyer beware.
