i don't think this is a CLASS-A amp.... ?
Does anyone have experience using the Sap-ii with Fostex Miii's?
i have a problem with my amp, the power plug won't go inside all the way.

the amp is working perfect but i don't know if it safe to use like this. can someone check his own plug? someone know what to do?
liorsa01
mine does the exact same thing, i have had zero issues with it. i dont see it being a problem unless something metal is jammed in there.
Cat_Box
ok, thank you/
Got a message mine was shipped! Let's see how long till it reaches Poland ;)
This or the Objective 2?

I like to know the answer as well! :D
This vs the Dac x6 from Fx audio?

Thanks a lot for your detailed answer!

Just a quick follow up...I tested my SAP-II connected to my computer's headphone jack which is backed up by a Realtek ALC 889 DAC (which is supposed to be pretty good for onboard audio) and compared it to my DAC X6 connected via USB. I listed to FLAC files via Foobar 2000 with my HiFiMan HE-4XX. DAC X6 to me was a clear winner; lush, richer sound, better separation, tighter bass. The ALC 889 with SAP-II was a bit hot on the top end and quickly fatiguing. Inner details like sound dissipating after the initial hit aren't present. This is not so much a strike against the SAP-II as it is just amplifying the source; actually highlighting issues with the onboard DAC. While the DAC X6 doesn't measure as well as other external DACs, it is a step above onboard audio. As far as amplification goes, it seems to me they are in the same ballpark.
This is my first upgrade after I got the fiio e10k, which I plan to use just as a dac via the line out in the back with this. I hope this works :P
The question is - is it 1000W per chanel or 500+500W?
any comparisons to the SAP VI, Objective 2 or Magni?
Just picked up a couple of these. Connecting both to a Topping D10 so that I can run 2 different cans simultaneously from the same source. This is for a shared listening and headphone testing station.
Would this work well with astell and kern t8ie mkii and smsl idea dac amp ? the iems are 16 ohms, does this sap 2 amp only work with 32 ohms, the mkii is 16 ohms ?
rosrock2000
should work, but there might be just the slightest amount of distortion. also, you would have to turn the wolume down a lot, both source and amp.
Trying to use this to make akg k7xx louder from Xbox one x controller. Is that going to work? Or is there a better solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is this better than FX audio X6 ?
Mohannad13
Hard to compare as this is just an amount while x6 is more like a dac
Buying from ebay it cost exactly the same with free postage from China to Australia and they provide one year warranty. Am I missing something here? Here in massdrop supposed to be cheaper or am I wrong?
Would this make a perceptible difference to consumer-grade headphones like Sennheiser 400-series? If so, is there an affordable DAC that works with iPhones and pairs well with this amp?
Hi, Does anyone know if this is a good amp for the beyerdynamic dt 990 pro 250 ohm? Or should i go with something like the xDuoo TA-01?
JeroenErven046
I owned TA-01 before. All I can say is that it is super powerful but that's it. Sound wise I don't find it very appealing. Even as a hybrid I can hardly tell the tube effect to be honest, but it could be just me. Can't comment much on sap2. The only smsl product I have is VA2 and this one is a mile better than TA-01 imo even though it is not even as half powerful as TA-01. Sounds very clean and crisp. A little bit bright and mid forward, just a little bit. Pairs pretty well with my m40x and 880 600ohm.
Hi ! Massdrop informed me my SAP2 was shipped yesterday. Should arrive before 8th May I hope. 42 € that’s a bargain I believe. BTY this is my first purchase on Massdrop, seems worth the wait as it is 69€ in Europe on Amazon.
Hi, I'm trying to understand. Is this SAP II the same as the SAP II Pro? I'm not sure if there is a difference, but I sometimes see it with a 'Pro', and sometimes, as with this case, without. Cheers.

I think it‘s the same. If you go to the SMSL website, they only list one "SAP II" head amp.

Mmm true, thanks
Good for HE-400i?

For $100, the Fulla 2 isn't bad. It's just not great compared to what a little more money will get you.
You'll probably be happier with an amp that uses external power rather than USB power. The HE400i is not exactly sensitive.
The O2 paired with a good, inexpensive DAC like the Topping D10 will run you a bit under $200 and be well matched to your cans. Or request the O2+SDAC drop again and hope it comes soon.

Planars have a flat impedance curve. So, they are not really affected by high output impedance of amps. U really can't speak of the sound quality, but output impedance won't be an issue with 400i
When are these getting delivered to California?
This looks interesting to me, but I can't pull the trigger without knowing its output impedance. Anyone got a clue?
junki
Yeah, looks like a pain in the butt to find info on output impedance but I might have found it: http://reference-audio-analyzer.pro/en/report/amp/smsl-sap-II.php (orange line on first graph). So 10 ohm output impedance? I've merely heard about some of SMSL's amps having high output impedance, so that might be on the mark.
junki
It uses a TPA6120A2 as the output buffer. This opamp requires a minimum output impedance of 10 ohms to prevent oscillation. The same chip is used in the Fiio E09K, Topping A30, etc.
I own the SAP-VI - mean little amp, though with a somewhat unaccomodating 10ohm output impedance. Any word on the output impedance on this one? I definitely like the minimalist look of this one with the blacked out text, centered headphone out, plus the 2 inputs are a boon.

just got in the drop, I have been waiting for this amp. Amp specs look better than my schiit fulla 2 that I use at office. So I will use the SMSL at office and bring the fulla home. I'm currently under utilizing the fulla - fulla features!. BTY - I preamp the fulla by raising the volume of my pc to 90% and I can run most headphones up to 300 ohms. So the SMSL should not be a problem, so I hope. for $50, looks like a good deal.
Any word on if these are shipping today?
PowderReality
Got the message of it going out yesterday.
Hi,
I am new to Massdrop, was wondering if this item will ship to Australia, and if so, how much it would cost? Is there a way to find out? Thanks.
artkingjw
Sorry this reply is late, but since the drop is active again: Just click on 'Join Drop' which will open a checkout page where you can see options and shipping costs before committing to anything. Shipping to Australia is $3.75.
artkingjw
Don't forget the import tax, that may cost a lot.
Hi, I own a Fiio X3 First Gen and drive AKG K553 Pro (Thanks Massdrop). Do you think this amp will make a huge difference? Also, does any one knows what is the shipment cost for Mexico?
Thanks
This or a Fiio E10K for my Sennheiser HD 6XX?
Load 4 more comments
Objective 2 works really well and is the standard, its not very expensive too, a great all rounder amp that will work with both high and low impedance headphones with enough power to drive almost any of them.
Hypebeast
I think your 6'xxs needs a better amp an o2 or magni 2 or 3. I owned an older model of the sap 2 and it is very good entry level amp but I think you just entered the big leagues with the 6xxs. The fiio e09k and k5 are also better. You can get a used well built e09k for $70 on ebay
What is the output impedance?
Uzuzu
Pretty sure this one is 10ohm.
Does anyone know anything about this circuit? Class D or AB? I'm guessing it's an amp on a chip and not discrete components...
Hey guys. I just received my unit and I noticed a little electric current on the faceplate when it's on. Is there a problem with the unit or do I need to change the cable to the mains with one that has an earth wire?
