I bought these on a whim, I'd wanted a reasonable pair of open back cans, using IEM's almost exclusively. Only a recent convert to Hi-Res players, so my experiences are relatively few. I actually bought two sets of cans, the Somic V2 and Sennheiser HD 206. I capitulated, and let them "burn in" for about 48 hours continuously before attempting to listen to them. The Senns, I used straight out of the box. OK, first impressions, comfortable, as in armchair comfortable. Not that heavy, nice soft headband, but rather thin ear pads, note for future reference! Very long cable definitely gets in the way, not really necessary IMO. I like lots of high frequencies, probably due to my age (64), and years of loud music, both indoors and in live gig situations since about 1970! So to the sound, my room speakers are a lovely 40+ year old pair of CEF's, and I also have a bookshelf pair of LINN's. I was exclusively a CD man, but after buying a FiiO X5, my music now comes from Hi-Res flacs almost totally, I have re-bought a lot of my old faves, as they have been remastered and/or remixed. I do still use my old trusty Pioneer PL12D as well, (love vinyl), anyway the Somic's have now had a good run on at least 3 different, disparate systems. As far as the music itself, lots of '70's prog. rock, Jazz/Fusion, especially Mahavishnu's, Billy Cobham, David Sanborn, Simon Phillips and the like. Big fan of Sting's solo stuff, then more modern, for example Dream Theater, Spock's Beard and the wondrous Hiromi Uehara & her trio. Then there's still the usual suspects, Beatles, Springsteen, Todd Rundgren, Sinatra, (Frank from the 1950's), Dave Matthews, The Dead, Phish, Gov't Mule and the Allmans. The Somic's have coped admirably with all this, the quality of sound is great, especially with the iFI attached between amp and cans. The soundstage is big but detailed, positioning of instruments is good, very little "blurring". So a resounding Yes, Thanks very much. Oh, and by the way, I changed the ear pads for Brainwavz Hybrid, brilliant move. I'll write again in a year or so.
