We've just received additional insight from the vendor regarding the group's order and here's where we're at:
Shortly after the drop ended we placed the group's order and the vendor confirmed the available quantities. We were later informed that all units had been prepared for shipment and were en route to our warehouse. Soon after, we learned that this notification and tracking was actually for a similar order and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IIIs were not included as a part of it .
The vendor acknowledged the mistake and only now informed us that they are unable to provide an accurate timetable for when these cameras will be able to ship. With this uncertainty in mind, we have decided the best course of action for the community is to cancel the drop and issue full refunds to each member. This decision is never an easy one and we have put future drops with this vendor on hold until they demonstrate process changes to eliminate this issue from happening again.
Refunds will be applied to your payment method within 1-3 business days. If you'd like further information about how we handle situations like this, you can visit the following link: https://helpdesk.massdrop.com/hc/en-us/articles/217618637-Why-did-Massdrop-cancel-the-drop-
Thanks once again for your patience and support of the Photography community. Your involvement is so valuable as we continue to grow and improve the experience for all members.

At $690 + shipping for an outdated model, I would pay extra for the Mk IV version which have 4K video, better sensor + high ISO performance, better quality EVF, faster processing speed etc. Nevertheless this is a great little camera and travels with me whenever I go abroad, although I have it's bigger brother A7R. But that's just me tho...

Have my RX100 Mk1 until a few weeks ago when Mk.IV was announced. All versions of RX100 are great little camera for sure. The Mk.IV have backlit CMOS sensor so low light performance should be much improved. If anyone looking for a bargain or just need a basic camera then i agree the price drop seems attractive tho I'm sure there are other options out there as well.
My way of looking at this is the Mk.IV are better buy all day long because the newer version will retain its value much better (over the next 12 months or so). Get this drop if you don't mind okder tech or just need a basic camera to trash around. For this, I'll go for Mk.II due to the hot shoe as well as cheaper price. I do think it's a bit ridiculous to buy a compact and go for a tiny EVF. Just my own view tho :)

From past experience, I know that 28mm is not wide enough for me. The III, IV, and V versions all use a wider lens (24mm instead of 28mm) which is a more useful focal length. Hopefully, someday we will get a drop for the III or IV or V.

cheapbutgreatIt should be noted if you're getting the V, they don't sell it. Instead they offer the VA with some improvements taken from VI.

I'm finding for more mainstream items Massdrop isn't able to offer any really significant discounts. This one is a prime example of a great product being offered at the same or more as in your mainstream retail outlets.

osei_ak@osei_ak - The $899 retail price you see in a store might be for the latest version IV. This is for the II and III. They are all good cameras with different strengths. I've heard Sony considers them to still be "current" and continues manufacturing them. I suppose they fill multiple price points.

Note, there are 6 iterations of this rx100 camera. This is the third of 6. The current going rate of the mark 3 is about $650.

BReal38Yes looks like it https://www.sony.com/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-rx100m4/specifications

Movie Recording Mode (NTSC) XAVC S 4K: 30p 100M (3,840 x 2,160/30p) The III model (this drop) only supports 4K output to a TV for still images and doesn't record video in 4K

Everyone should subscribe to that YouTube channel in the linked video (TheArtofPhotography). As far as I'm concerned, it's the best on the internet. It's only about 5% straight gear reviews - the rest is history, technique, tutorials, and interviews. If you have even a passing interest in photography it's worth watching.
